Immediate loss of power then transmission slip

1999 F250 V10.

I was going up I70 in the rockies this last weekend with the overdrive OFF and all of the sudden the engine seemed to completely lose power, then the tranmission started slipping. This occured for about a minute. I then put the truck back into overdrive and all the symptoms disappeared. Anybody have any idea of what happened? I haven't had the truck for that long, but have never felt anything like this in any vehicle?

Thanks in advance,
Chris.

Any trouble codes?

Is it full of clean fluid?

Was it a shudder through the whole truck, or like it was in neutral?

Did the OD lock out light blink?

Hopefully it wasn't trying to lock up in that gear. I wouldn't drive it until I had it looked at. Check your fluild...see if it's burnt.

Wasn't trying to lockup in what gear? The 4R100 is capable of locking in all four forward gears.

It might be an electrical power problem to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM.)

I meant locking between 2 gears. A malfuntion that would cause loss of power and slippage. (Trying to get into 2 gears at the same time).

no trouble codes

no flashing OD light.

I haven't checked the transmission fluid. It hasn't happened since.

I think it might have something to do with the superchip that I had installed on the car.

It may just be a coil, I have known several people that though they a bad tranny and it was a misfire.

You need to check the fluid, But if it is ok i would not worry about it.

This is a non-synchronous transmission. It can't do that.

So some can and some can't?

Yes, a transmission that is a synchronous shift can try to engage two gears at once. Bad things happen. It's not possible on the 4R100.
