Spot Weld Dimples

rodgerdunn@aol.com

I have 1965 Econoline Pickup. It has many spotweld dimples
on the bed. Around the wheel wells and along the lower
panels. Since my truck is a one owner in very nice shape.
I assume they were there when the truck was new ?

Should I leave them or take them out ? We are about to repaint the
truck.

They would not be there from the factory. They probally showed up over time. It usually is an accumulation of dirt and rust happening behind it. Pushing the metal out, but the spot welds are holding causing the dimples.
You could just fill them over and paint, but later down the road they may re appear or more likely rust out. The other more expesive is to drill them out to separate the panel and get in to have the rust cleaned out and treated and them the panels welded back on.
That way it will last for a very long time of another 50 years.
