Has anyone ever done their rocker panels with a bed liner type coating? I have wanted to do it to mine but Im not sure if I should attempt it or have a professional do it. What are your experiances? Whats involved? Anyone know how much I could get it done for professionally?
If done properly, it will last a long time. Prep is the important part in this step. You will need to sand the areas with at least 36 grit paper, clean the areas real good with a wax and grease remover, mask off the area and then apply per manuf instructions. But if you are looking for a smooth finish, you wont get it with bed liner.

I would maybe go with 80 grit instead. 36 will probably sand down to bare metal in spots and bedliner is so textured sometimes you won't get every single thing 100% covered. 80 is plenty of grip and you probably won't go through. I agree though, its all in the prep with bedliner. And it will last a long time.

If it is not 100% covered, it may not be applied right. herculiner needs two coats, and its 100% coverage and waterproof.

I was assuming a spray on application. Herculiner is waterproof, but there's some important things it is not. It is not catalyzed, which means if you spill gas on it, it will melt right off. Also, not being catalyzed (using hardener) it is not UV stable. Which is why almost every Herculiner job that you see that is exposed to sunlight chalks out very badly a year or two later. I've used "Hippo Liner" or "Shake and Shoot" by Dominion Sure Seal and they're great products. SEM makes one too, as do a ton of other brands. I'd definitely get one that takes a hardener though.
