Wow...sorry to hear about your buddy. Our weekend wasn't that bad, though it was MUDDYYYYYYYY. Gawd what a mess DW42 was. I didn't get the rig stuck(like many, many others), though it's a disaster to look at, including the race car. Went 2 rounds Sat, 3 on Sunday. I woke up Sunday morning to 32* inside the trailer!! Yowza!!! it was COLD!! It was just a miserable weekend, cold, damp, yuk. Glad to get home Sunday night and just warm up. All was good, though buddy did drop a valve in his Mustang. Not sure of total carnage, but nothing hang'n out the bottom so hopefully just a valve and piston will get it back together for next season. Glad it was last day of season and not the first.
Start cleaning up garage and around to get ready for snow. Sold an old junk lawn tractor on C/L so don't have to look at that anymore(after 4 yrs). $20 is better then having to haul it to scrap myself LOL! Can't wait to try out the ol Cubby and the 52" blade this winter!

That was the reason why I asked many questions..... this is going to be a long post.!
My grandfather and grandmother were immigrants to the US. Jake was from Russia and Blanche was from Poland. She was going to be deported if she didnt marry, so they "hooked" up.
Jake had one brother who died in a coal mine and never had children. My Dad was the only son and had 5 sisters.
My Dad was drafted in 1952 for Korea and in basic training my dad said to a higher up "I dont think I should be here" I'm the last surviving male in my family with no other cousins with the same last name. The guy was like are you serious? They kept my Dad State side during his draft and about a month before his time was up they gave him discharge papers as the US spent the last 2 years looking for anyone else with the same last name and there is NONE (at that time). Now my Dad had 2 boys me and my brother and we both have one son each.
The problem is when my Grandfather came thru Ellis island, someone asked his name, and being he couldnt speak english and the russian spelling of my last name is different than the way its spelled in english, my last name is basically made up! This info is gone forever.
This is what I tried so depearetly to find out and my dad nor his sisters have the needed info. I remember him saying to me "I never thought to ask"
Blanch died at 53 with ovarian Cancer and Jake died at 48 with a brain anurism.
The odd thing is my dad told me how he visited his dad the day he died and said " how are you doing?" and Jake said doing well and the next instant there was blood running out of his ear and he was gone.
My dad was with his dad in his final moments and I was with my dad in his final moments.
My father in law is fighting lung cancer now. He was diagnosed in May and did well thru Chemo and has taken a bad turn in the last week. Its already spread, and my wife has been with him a lot. He has been in the hospital since Saturday and with all this flu they wont allow my kids to visit, this has really brought him down as he has been a part of my kids daily life!

Kevin....the name mispelling at Ellis Island or any port for that matter, is about the norm.
For folks from non-speaking English countries tried to explain their name and how to spell it.....and they most likely were not able to read or write themselves were of little help.....so the census wrote their name however it sounded.
Always use the soundex system for locating same sounding relatives.
Lucky for you is.....it is a strange last name ...not like smith or jones. So, when you locate a name similiar.....it most likely will be a relative. NOT ALWAYS....but likely.
Old people are like libraries full of knowledge ready to close.....so go and ask now while still able and you will get tremendous results.
Most family-lore is not totally correct...and there may be some truth to them, but exagerrated. I have done this for people for 15 yrs.,and believe me it is llike finding a rare hood bird for a 56......no kidding......and it is your name......I actually own and have my gr.great great grandpa's tombstone.......it and tons of family handmedowns and alot of pride in my family.......sounds like you too.
I just researched a Russian name and believe me it was fun......I don't like common names for research........I have been in alot of cemeteries...haha!!
ANYWAY.....I need to move my frame and cab inside to start installing the engine,etc.....so if you want some tips on your family.....let me know.....I knew Henry S. and my family also was from Pa near your folks......LOL WEIRD!!!

Leaves keep on comin',and now have all my trucks under cover, and the stude is outside for the first time with a car cover....waiting to come back inside.
Have to do more chores myself....but trucks are wrapped up and ready for snow to fly.....Halloween will be fun this year, and all my brothers and sisters come up and brother in law. It is a good time and all the parties we can walk to......

the end is near....LOL
The dreaded November is coming and I just have gotten a new set of truck-covers for some of my fleet.
I hate to see the season end....but now will get ready to haul down to Florida.
It was a great truck season for me. I love the feeling of having a bunch of parts/and then 1 day it turns into a real truck.
See you in November.
