I ran outside and looked at my own axle code. It says 18. I would assume that means you have the OTHER gear ratio, being 3.55. I wouldn't bet my life on this. I also couldn't tell you if you have limited slip or not. The metal tag on your pumpkin would tell you if you have limited slip.

Edit; The Escape's axle code reads 96. Would this be the same as the Rangers? If so, the gear ratio is 3.73 non-limited slip, which is what I think it is (well I thought it was 4.10 but I wasn't sure).

Cool man. Where did you find this chart anyway? Just curious. I guess the Ranger and Escape would share the same axle codes but I'm not sure. I mean it sounds close enough, the Escape is going to have a 3.73 or 4.10 gear anyway, the little 3.0L just doesn't push out much torque.

5-speed Lightning, SWEEET! That NLOC thread was a killer writeup!
I think a T56 is out beacause the shifter location is right on the far end of the tailshaft and would poke through where the center seat or console is. I ran into that when wanting to swap a 5-speed into my f100. Had to keep the bench seat so that limited on car trans swaps, so I went with a NV truck trans and stock location.
The M50D would be the easiest to swap in, but that trans is crap. Even my 300-6 has torn that trans up!
If you get a Cobra spec T-5Z it will hold up a lot longer than a regular T-5 but who knows about in a truck. My stock T-5Z in my '93 Cobra has 438rwhp 495rwtq Kenne Bell supercharged power, and it holds up nicely if not powershifted.
I think that TKO 600 is the best idea and someone before you has already done it, so use his writeup as instructions.

I bet your 300 tore it up because all the fluid leaked out - totally notorious for that. I have a M5OD behind the Windsor in my 88, got the shift plug kit from Southern Gear (eliminates leaking issues), a Spec Stage 3 clutch, and Redline fluid in it and it does fine.
The truck made 306 hp and 360 lb-ft at the tires with the little baby cam, now it should make about 340/370 with the new one.

Ok my 1st post...5sp Gen1 Lightnings rock!!!!!!!! Ive beeen there done that... sold it in aug. 08.. Went to the state of Washington... I did a conversion from a stock auto E4OD to a Tremec TKO-600... You tube it, NLOC.net it, It worked... lots siad it wouldent work..... it did.......
The T5 is a good trans, but it more probably wont hold up very long in a truck behind a 351. The trans barley handles the output of a 5.0 mustang.
I don't know what the OP is wanting to do as far as the engine goes, but if he just has a stock lightning then the T5 would hold up great. The non-lightning trucks with 351's came with a T5 and the power on them is pretty close to the same as the lightning.
The stock "rating" on the T5 is somewhere around 300 lbs of torque, but it can handle much more than that. I'm running a stock T5 behind a 351w with over 550 lb/ft of torque in a mustang with 275/60 slicks, 4.56 gears, and launching at 5k rpm. It's not had one problem in 5 years of hard launching, speed shifting, etc.

None of the trucks came with the T5 stock. they hd the M5od, and only behind the 300 I6 and the 5.0. I'm glad u had good luck with your t5 cause my one friend grenaded his in 2 years in a 5.0 stang with just intake, exhaust 3:55 gears. Another friend ha=d a supercharged 5.0 stang and went through T5's like they were going out of style. The T5 in my stock stang doesnt like to shift into 2nd under hard acceleration.
