Dp tuner?

It looks like alot of the members have the dp tuner.
I'm thinking about changing over to it.
This will be my 3rd chip. Hoping to be my last one.
Does anyone have the drive through program. (the program that reduces injector pressure so you can be heard at the drive through)?
How quiet is it? As quiet as a commom rail 6.4?
What hp setting do you drive it in for every day driving?

Any issues with chip.

Think mine has about 50,000 miles on it. Might need to replace the F5 switch due to me getting cleaner in it. Other than that no problems with mine... Use the 40 tow w/ the boat in the hills, and the 80 economy on the highway.

I have the drive thru setting and it's a good 40% quieter. You may use it more talking to someone outside the truck, glad I got it. For everyday I use 80hp econo. Jody's tune makes my Excursion VERY light on it's feet, it certainly doesn't feel like an 8K lb truck. Before this I had a Hypertech programmer and while a little better than stock, it's a big pile of you know what compare to my DP Tuner. SOOOOOO glad I chose Jody for my chip. You won't be disapointed.

What are the previous chips you've ran? Generic, off the shelf stuff I assume, no?

Jody does amazing things with these 7.3's. You will not be dissapointed.

I have the drive thru tune, but haven't used it yet since I don't eat fast food. It is quite a bit quieter than the other tunes though.

For me, my daily driving tune is the 60 econo. I have a heavy foot when accelerating and I don't like the amount of smoke (albeit brief) I put out in the 80 econo tune whenever I punch it.

I have an extremely broad range of Jody's tunes in my F250, and they all rock!

It's funny, I haven't used mine at a drive thru yet either. Right after I posted here we stopped in front of a friends house as he was in his driveway. As he walked up to the passenger side window he said jokingly, "Ya know, most people with diesels shut them off before they start talking". "Hold on" I said and switched to the drive thru setting. "That better?", I said. His eyes lit up and he said, "now that's cool". He just kept smiling and saying how cool it was. So yeah, it works well.

I have 60T, 80T, 60E, 80E, 120R, 140A, and the Drive-Thru. I ran a Bully Dog Triple Dog before this and an early Superchips chip before that. I also ran the SC stacked with the Bully Dog.

Nothing, and I mean nothing compares to Jody's tunes.

Thanks for the reply,
I started out with a superchips programer.
I have a 6 position chip from Diesel Innovations.60,85,120,140,etc.
It seems the injection pressure is high with this chip.More noise out of injectors in high setting.
Does this seem the same with Jody's chip.
Any idea what you average fuel economy is with his 80e tune.
Is there alot of black smoke in higher settings.
You indicated you had a superchips prior. My super chips had alot of power off the line then tapered off mid to upper throttle.
How does Jody's respond off the line and through tthe throttle?
How firm are the shifts.
Thanks again for the responses

As far as noise from the injectors, the sound is different at idle but I would not call it louder. It is a deeper tone but not any louder that I've noticed.

Fuel mileage: I usually drive in 60E, but on my trip to Boise last weekend (2600 miles round trip) I used 80E and saw about 18mpg. Mind you some of that was mountain driving and some was at 75-80 mph.

Black smoke: I have a van turbo with a 1.15 AR exhaust housing so down low it smokes like you would not believe but it clears out fast. I just put on new exhaust manifolds last weekend because of a bad leak so that has brought the smoke down quite a bit. With a stock turbo your smoke will be much less

Throttle response: Amazing. I still giggle when I get into it. All the way through the RPM range.

Shifts are solid. Not too firm but much more direct than stock.

Honestly there is nothing bad I could say about Jody's tunes. I miss my decel tune but I gave it up when i went to the van turbo because I no longer have an EBPV.

Hope this helps.

I agree with everything Duckfan says 100%. As far as power, on my 80E it's very snappy at the bottom end and continues to pull hard all the way through the curve. It does not fall on it's face at all. If I stand on the throttle in my 120Race, it stumbles for a fraction of a second the takes off like a bat out of hell and continues to pull extremely hard. Like my 80E, it actually makes me giggle. My shift in 120 are a litle harder but 80E is firmer than stock but not hard by any means.

If you go to youtube I believe there are some videos floating around look under dptuner or dptuner1.

I use drive-thru often. I have stock injectors and my truck is quieter now to the point I don't need to turn my truck off. For Single shot injector's it makes a huge improvement in sound.

I use the 80 econo. I drive a Excursion also so I like it better for the low end torque you get from it over the 60 econo.

Since you have an Excursion I'll state first that our chips are PATS compatible so you don't need to keep the plug up under the dash unplugged anymore. You can plug it back up and your theft light won't blink for 10 minutes. PATS will work flawlessly.

There are over 3600 parameters within the EEc-V computer. The parameters control things like like shift points, fueling ICP,etc. How those parameters are changed may be different from one tuner to another and each will have their own reasons for what they do in their tuning based off of live tuning or if the gerenal consensus of their customers like it they'll make that the standard for their tuning for stock trucks. Jody's tunes are linear throughout the entire power band. With everything in you truck in good working order you will see the full potential of the tuning. Shift points will be crisper. The tow tune shift points are raised and spread out to aid in towing more efficiently.

If you want something custom he can do that too. Before ordering send him an email and finalize what you want at the time of ordering. His direct email is jody@dp-tuner.com.

If we can help with anymore questions don't hesitate to give either of us a call.

Diane

Diane,
I'm thinking about a F-5 tuner.
65 to 80hp tow with solid shifts. Towing 6,000 camper.
If we go 80hp (tow) how heavy can the trailer be in that tow.
80 hp economy with slight over stock firmness shifts. I have sonnex installed. My wife will be in this setting most of the time.
Drive through
120/140 tunes solid shifts
Can the chip be set up like this Tow/Drive through/Economy//120/140 (cost of this chip)

Yep, that's exactly how I wanted mine and they set it up perfectly. Mine is stk/80t/Drivethru/80e/120R. This way I'm up or down one push of the button from 80e to where I may need to be.
