Battery and Battery Tray Size?

My 54 F100 came without a battery or battery tray. Brought the truck home in pieces. Keeping the battery in the original location but going to 12V. What is the group number for the original 6V battery? I need dimensions to buy a a tray and battery that will fit the hole in the floor.
Thanks
Bob

Ford Parts and Accessory guide identifies a 70 and 90 amp battery for the 54/55 trucks, both have the same dimensions and S.A.E group listed:
5-1/2 W, 10" L, 8" H, group 2N

Battery trays are available for your truck based on a quick look at a couple of catalogs handy here. You can check them out on-line at LMC Truck or Mac's Autoparts and I'm sure several others.

I saved as many parts from a chevy pickup I had that I thought would be usefull and it included the battery tray. I easily modified it to fit the original location. My original was rusted and badly bent as well as the protection cover in front of the battery tray and made one fron 16 gauge. I will be using an optima gel battery. This tray is smaller than the original.

Could you use a nice stainless battery tray?

I bought this and some time later discovered it's the wrong size for a '56 Panel.

It's 7 3/4

X 11 1/2

and 9" high

If you can use it, just pay UPS charges and it's yours.

Not sure if it will help or not, but I just bought a battery for my truck, and the ones that have the recessed posts (not the ones you have to put a bolt on, but the posts are a level down instead of on top, you could stack these batteries if that makes sense) and it clears just fine. The first time I bought a battery for it I had ones with the posts on top and then it shorted out when you put the cover on, but the recessed post batteries work just fine.
