when you pulled the vacuum off the distributor and no change, it's because the distributor is hooked up to a ported vacuum off of the carb. that port is designed to have little to no vacuum at idle.

and as "thudpucker" once mentioned, "leave the carb alone until you're sure it's the carb"

With regards to the vacuum, make sure it is ported vacuum, some are hooked to manifold vacuum, try to pull vacuum on the advance and see if it holds. That will tell you if the diaphragm is bad (you probably knew that, but in case you did not). In any case, start with a good tune up.

Started my tune-up, but I had to drive all over to find wires and didn't get them until this morning and that involved calling autozones corporote office and leaving a message on the district managers cell phone. Lazy turds didn't come to work until I called and had them woke up and then he just kept sorry he was "dancing the night away with the wife"
I am going to finish the tune-up before I do anything more. My dad has always taught me start with the easier cheaper things and work your way into the more difficult expensive things.

I'll let you know how it goes after I finish it.

If the filters and pump has been replaced, and you know the switchover valve is working properly, I'd start looking for obstructions in the fuel line leading from your main tank to the engine bay. Check for pinched steel lines, degraded rubber lines, degraded return lines, etc...

I finished the tune-up and couldn't for the life of me figure out why it still ran so bad...

My neighbor came over and said if I fix it will you plow my driveway?. Of course I said yes. That's when he showed me where the vacum advance was disconnected....

Darn Chevy guys anyway. She runs and drives great now.

Got it and called him and left a message with my number... Doubt he'll call. Then I called Corp. Office and they answered and called and woke up the guy with the key. It's a shame there are so many unemployed people who would show up on time.

I took the top of my NP435 Tranny off to try and determine a "slip from gear" issue
Having trouble getty it back on correctly.Do the forks and glides etc require something extra to ste it back on top correctly. Have gotten it back on but now won't go into any gear

Get the gears in neutral, and you have to slightly move the reverse idler to line up with the reverse fork.

I had left him a detailed message on Sunday, right after the employee told me he was going back home. (He did apologize to all 5 customers there waiting) He made the arguement that this was not the first time this had happened, but you never know. I thought about it and talked with my wife and in all honesty the guy who did show up already looked like he was scared of losing his job and I decided I wasn't going to complain any further as jobs are hard to come by. Hopefully he will get it together before he does lose his job.

Took the truck about 30 miles today through town stop and go traffic to see how she did showed her to my dad. I think she brought a tear to his eye. (his 1st new truck was a 79 F250 and he used to work for the tractor division when they were in Des Moines). But I digress... She did good didn't use much fuel, ran very well, and to top it off dry as a bone underneath anywhere I have parked so far. Now it's time to mount the snow plow.

John..you are dealing with a REAL rookie here..
I am almost embarassed to ask, but, "how do you get or tell if the gears are in neuutral position'?
