well I did the same to my '86 250 w/ the 460....

Welded all the little stainless tubes coming off the manifold for AIR, just cut them off right at the minifold, and welded! May not be a good weld, but it's only an exhaust plug!

Removed both AIR pumps

Made a different alternator bracket, the AIR pump/alt. bracket is WAY too big and in the way

Made plugs for the back of the heads by cutting the tube off right at the little block that bolts to the back of each head and welding the hole shut, and bolting it back on

took out all EVAP system parts....those 2 plastic boxes down below the battery, and all lines atatched just cut the line like 2 feet away from gas tanks

unhooked the vacuum line going to the EGR valve, so it is permanently closed. I've removed them before and made a plate that bolted back on in some cases.

My ONLY vacuum hoses are for my vacuum advance on the distributor, and the big one off the intake for the brake booster.

I don't have any vacuum leaks because there is nothing running off vacuum to leak in the first place, but I remember what it was like stock.....LOTS of vacuum hoses!

You may also want to keep the one that goes to the valve cover for PCV, AND I know on some of the 80's trucks there is a vacuum thing that moves the blend door for the heater. if you have it you can see it plain as day sitting on top of the heatrer box under the hood. my truck is cable, I would think your is too, but if you do have it well i don't know what to tell you

well then....if you don't have any tubes on your manifolds and being cali you may have a different setup all together. All the other 460 mid 80's trucks I've seen are identical to mine....around here anyways. I guess I can't really help much

leadhead- i'm desmogging a 77 linc 460, i ditched the tubes that come off the back of the heads thinking i could plug them. was told by a guy at work today(he blocked them off useing your way) that the block-off kit costs around 40.00. i was thinking maybe a 3/8 small plate with a hole drilled to bolt it shut, you think that will work? any ideas?

I don't see why not, 3/8 plate should be thick enough so it won't bend. It's only exhaust your blocking off....not that hard to do.

Try it out, I bet it will work great!

Why desmog your truck? It won't change performance or gas mileage.

If you have a California truck with the heavy GVW (8600) you only have one smog pump & to close off the tubes at the back of the heads you don't need 3/8" plates 1/8" will work great. You can also just cut the steel lines on both heads & use a piece of Hydraulic hose & clamp them together. I have seen this work OK also. Flat iron can be used to make an alt. bracket. As for the EGR the cleanest is to install a non EGR manifold. IE: Edelbrock Performer or something similar. My 86 F250 4x4 Cal. smog 460. runs an Edelbrock Performer with a 4160 Holley 600 cfm.
