Question problem setting 292 into frame??

I have a 292 from a 1964 f100 with a 3 speed that ran and want to install it into my 56 f100 project.
The engine mount is different and not on the engine. The 56 272 yblock mount won't slip under balancer to mount up engine to frame.
Is there a way to mount this?
I wonder if the harm.bal. has to be removed? I don't want to do that if at all possible.
It is funny that not all yblocks use same mounts.
What would you suggest?
thanks...Bill

You will have to pull the balancer in order to install the bracket. One of the bolts just won't come out without removing the balancer.

Are you sure the old 56 mount will bolt up to the 64 yblock with the original harm balancer.....and how hard is it to remove? Bill

I'm not sure. But if I'm not mistaken, the 56 mount was used in 4x4s in the 60s. I know neither of the mounts will come off or go on the engine without removing the damper. When you have the dampers off, compare them.

I have a front mount from a 60 292 and the only way to R&R it is to have the balancer off.

I won't be using it though. My transmission doesn't have a mount on the bell housing.

I'll be using "side" engine mounts and a tail mount for the trans......and it appears that I'll be making them myself.....

The mount comes right off the 56 with 272 without any problems.
That is why it is frustrating to realize the darn harm balancer is going to have to be pulled, and I do not want to go through all that.
I wanted to just set this 292 in place and not have to buy more parts and pieces. I like body and paintwork....not engine repair...LOL

flipklos....that would be awesome.

I seem to always have these problems, but with some advice will pull through.
I have another yblock from another 56 that can be installed, eccept the 64 engine has a 2100 carb and is already painted and turns over nice.
THESE YBLOCKS ARE A BIG PAIN.....LOL

A universal puller that you can find at a parts store will pull the damper. It can usually be used to pull a steering wheel. You may already have this in your tool collection. Do not use a gear puller. A damper installer can be had for about $50.00. You can make due with a trip to a good hardware store to acquire a longer bolt, or even all thread rod and some washers which will press it on just as well.
We'll get that 292 in there.

As for putting on a harmonic,
I have had good luck with a socket and hammer to start it. Just polish the crank nose with a bit of emmery cloth and it will go about 2/3 on using the hammer. Insert your bolt to finish.
A harmonic balancer puller is a useful tool to have though. you can even use it to pull some bearings with a bit of a modification.

I would leave hammering for the broke down on the side of the road, ain't got no other options scenario. I know it gets the balancer on. I know many have done it without problems. I've done it without problems. But I would not do it unless I have to.
