Thinking of Buying a 06-08

Hey everyone, I've been thinking about buying a 06-08 and was just wondering what the common issues in these years are? I'm looking at a 5.4 with 3.73s and tow package. Thanks for the insight.

well actually when I think of it not much really...
Well the spark plug issue was fixed in 07 (wish somebody would have told me that beofre I did mind lol)
I know the older trucks some times have the breaks lock up on the rotar (happened to my brothers 04 last night actually) never herd of it happening to one of the newer ones ... Yet.
Then there the top end ticking, that starts around 50,000 miles, can't really do anything about that but ignore it or pay to fix it so that it can happen again. It's not bad I can't hear mine unless I'm going slow in a area with closed in roads.
I'd say definatly stay with a 07 or 08
only problems I have with my truck is the lack of noticable power. Fuel econ. And how over weight it is. I'm sure you will love it unless you want to drive like an angery teenager like me

Thanks for the input. I saw one of the other threads discussing the tick. Has it gotten better with the newer models or are all effected with the 5.4?

Best Truck on the road - Buy One!
I have had my '06 since late 2005. Not one single complaint.
I work my truck hard and it never lets me down. MPG get's a lot of bad press - but it's a heavy hard pulling Truck. I did not buy mine to expect it to perform like a prius.

i got an '06 5.4L xlt f150 super crew cab 4x4 with the 6.5-foot bed a month ago with 95-K miles on her and i'm approaching 100-K already without a single issue. the complete truck is like new -- passengers say it's "like a tank," and my kids love the room inside. the truck's size, weight and handling characteristics make it seem more substantial than any of the other 15 trucks i test-drove from all manufacturers. i have loaded it down with logs for the winter and it pulls strong like it is empty, and the power (torque and HP) is incredible, as 1988 was the last time I owned a full-size truck, let alone anything else with such a great V-8.

Thanks everyone for the comments. My wife and I went this past weekend and test drove a couple. Found an 07 Lariat that we may make an offer. It's definitely an improvement over my 86 Lariat (understatement).

These are great trucks. I've had my 06 XLT for 2 years now. So far had to replace the transfer case shift motor, driver side power window switch, and add a couple of leafs to the rear springs for towing. It's not fast, but it tows well for a 1/2 ton. I get in the high 17's on the highway and 9 to 10 towing my enclosed car hauler. If I towed every week I'd go back to diesel. But for the occassioal towing I do it works out great.

Do the 4x4s come standard wtih a limited slip differential? I don't have much experience with 4x4 so I'm a little ignorant when it comes to the details. Also, when activated do the front 2 wheels act as a locker where the both will have power going to them or are they open or even limited slip as well?

Thumbs up

06-08? You'll be really pleased.

Our last truck is a '77 F150 4x4 with 351 M auto & 3.50 gears, it has Edlelbrock intake, Holley 600, Crane torque grind cam all of which helped it greatly when installed at 35-40,000 miles. Truck has 102,000 now. We've had it since 1986. I've pulled loads with it, but slowly. It just never did have a lot of power, but it's always done OK.

In August, we purchased 2007 F150 Scab 4x4 with this 5.4 Triton auto & 3.55 gears, 26,000 miles. Smaller at 330 cubes, but the technology, the fuel injection, the higher compression, the whole package .... this newer truck moves almost effortlessly in comparison to the '77.

55 in the 77 is getting ther, 65 is flying as the motor is spinning and the cab is noisy.

55 in the 07 is like "are we moving yet?" and 65 is so quiet, so smooth, have to look down to make sure of speed often as it's all too easy to gather a few too many MPHs.

No issues with 5.4, no noises. Everything I read seems topoint to the earlier ones having a couple minor glitches, buddy has way over 100,000 on his '99 5.4, has pulled his long long camper around the whole USA, across the Rockies and high Sierras, and back across deserts with his 250 crew cab. No issues.

As I understand, there is a certain procedure which must be followed when replacing plugs, plenty here on that. Something about cam phazers too. I'll do all that when the time comes.

Mileage with '77 never over 14-15 when best, usually 11-12 is it.

Already seen 19+ on a trip to wife's "Cousin Reunion" in the 07.

I always planned another refresh for the '77, have collected stuff over the years, but after driving a '07, could not believe the changes in trucks over the last 25-30 years. No more wandering, quiet cabs, comfortable, decent mileage, good power even in what we once would have said was a small motor.

(PS ... '77 is a long bed F150 Custom, cold air with R-12 still, PS, PB, AM/FM, NP205 TC, C-6 AUTO, 351M, and in the basement, new bedsides, FORD tailgate, two doors, fender liners for rear, wheel arches, bright moldings, all new lights, and 9 new tires, (4 straight tread), 5 rough tread, 8 wheels (4 new), old lugs, 20 new chrome lugs, 4 centers, 4 wide beauty rings, spare gages, and still more stuff .... it will be up for sale as a package soon ... gotta thin the heard.)

Thanks everyone for your input. We bought a truck yesterday. It's an 07 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 with 24k miles. I'll try to post up some pics later if I can figure out how on this forum. Thanks again for the help.
