5.0 to 5.8 swap

I am swapping a '91 351w into a standard trans '89 5.0.
Can I use the 5.0 computer?
What if I put in a 5.0 cam and match the firing order?

I would really recommend a 351 computer. It will plug into the 302 wiring without any modifications. The 302 computer might run the 351, but it won't run it as well as the 351 computer.

If the '91 is an auto then you should get a "manual ECM".
Something about a "hanging idle" problem or something.
I'm still in the process of learning this stuff myself. :)

The 5.8 uses the 13726548 firing order is that how you have it wired?

The firing order doesn't matter as far as the EFI is concerned since the injectors are batch fired.

Any codes in the computer?

What is the fuel pressure.

Yup, 351 firing order. #6 ends up being right at the front of the motor.
I assume the fuel pressure is OK since the 5.0 ran alright.
It's got headers, no O2 sensor, same as the 5.0.
I disconnected the vacumn line to the EGR (I assume this would keep it closed) because it used to connect straight to the exhaust manifold whereas the 5.0 had a tube running under the intake manifold somewhere.
The check engine light is now on but I have not checked the codes.
I was thinking of swapping in the sensors (TPS, temp, etc.) from the 5.0.

Don't guess, pull the codes! All it takes is a $40 code reader or a piece of wire to pull the codes for free. See fordfuelinjection.com fo details.

Grounded the little plug, key on, engine light just stays on.
I suppose a code reader may be in order.

A code reader won't work any better than a jumper wire unless the check engine light is burned out. Are you looking at the red "Engine" light or the yellow "Check Engine" light?

Maybe you grounded the wrong pin? You have to either ground the Self-Test In wire or tie it to Sig-Rtn on the larger odd shaped connector.

Jmpercable straight to the battery from STI.
I did my van a few years back so I am familiar with the process.
Can't really hear the fuel pumps like it says. Maybe someone has messed with the wiring.

The red light is a dummy light for oil pressure, there's a yellow light that you count for getting codes, yours may be burnt out if you don't see it. Try unplugging the TPS and start the truck, that should make the check engine light come on, if not it's probably burnt.
