I've run into a little snag. The local parts store has told me that a replacement for one of the axle spindle nut lock washers is not possible for them to find. Gee-whiz! I thought Dana 70 axles were pretty common. Any suggestions where I can find a new one of these?
I've already been hunting on ebay and Rock auto with no luck. If push comes to shove... I'll just re-use my old scabby lock washer. It is missing the little tab that slides into the slot on the axle tube .
Thanks for the link gatorfor88. I went cheap and refurbished the original 16.5 rims with some elbow grease and a fresh coat of wheel paint. I think they look pretty good.
I got the rear brake shoes & drums mounted up on the truck. I've just got to run some brake lines in the back and I'm in business again. I'm going to replace the left handed studs with right hand threaded studs because the lefties p-#ss me off.

I got brakes in, the engine is dialed in, the starting circuit fault has been found - it was a sticky starter relay/solenoid.
And now to the really important stuff, I put a new green metal flake steering wheel in the truck.
The horn works. The Parking brake works. The line lock works. --yeah that was another really critical piece of equipment.
The local car club I belong to is having a show in a week. I have been pushing to get the truck streetable so I can park it next to the guys with the vintage lambos and porsches.
I think I am down to installing mirrors, seatbelts,
and the headlights. Oh darn, the headlights don't work.
I can't seem to hang the panels on the truck to save my life. They're all crooked. Ah heck! I just want it legal for the road at this point. All the other stuff I'll just figure out after the car show.
Looks like you need to remove a shim or two out of the core support if that fender line is really wider at the bottom. Truck looks pretty dang good man.
Well it's official. The old truck is 'technically' an operating, insured, on the road truck. Yesterday My 11 year old son and I took the truck out for it's first drive around the block in four years and eleven months. Phew! Now I just have to try and make it look a little nicer for the car show next week.
Like its owner, this truck has some issues.
1. Tranny won't shift into 2nd or 3rd gear when its in drive (it's an automatic c6)
2. Headlights don't work
3. no carpet
4. fuel tank selector switch needs to be connected.
5. Runs rough as snot (but it runs and drives... hehe
6. interior blower fan doesn't work
7. cargo light needs to be hooked up
8. driver console and map lights don't work
9. The glass pack mufflers are WAY too loud
10. exhaust leak on the passenger side header flange-needs new gasket and seal.
and the list goes on and on...
I've got most of the stuff handy to fix these things. Looks like I've got some late nights after work this week.

Man theres always a set back lol these old trucks are like women to us its not the kill but the thrill of the hunt we will eventually get to drive them . That's why Ive been working on my 73 for 16 years on and off as bad as it seems when ya get mad at it, its actually stress relief to work on it. I took my truck with a "GOOD" craigslist engine to have a new exhaust installed a few weekends ago and noticed on the way home the oil pressure was falling ugh long story short my 351w is now in my buddies shop jus having came back from the machine shop awaiting my reworked heads to be installed. Im like you im so ready to get to the important "fun" stuff like making a 41 year old truck look like it came out with a CD player and a 60/40 split seat
Oh btw try the modulator valve on the bk of the trans make sure the vacuum line is attached bc it wont shift without it

Thanks for the advice Jughead. I did hook up the 41 year old tranny modulator. I may need a new one. On to the list...
