Tow rating of factory hitch on '06 F-350

I'll have to look again. All I saw on it, weight was, was GVW (11,200), and front and rear axle weights, but no GCVW (gross combined vehicle weight).
I have found on many online sources that the F-350 is good for 12,500 lbs towing with the 6.0L and 3.73 that I have, but my question was directed at the actual hitch. A friend of mine bought a Dodge 2500 w/ Cummins, and although the truck is rated to tow 12,800, the hitch that was bolted on (I think it was a factory hitch, but not 100% source) was only a class III (5,000 lbs). He put a class IV on (his boat weighs about 10,000).
Thanks,
Jay
