@^*#@ Headliner
#47
I can't say how this effects trucks other than 51-52. I tried to install a headliner awhile back. Here are some of the problem areas for me.
The headboard that the headliner slides into was to tight,
the screw holding the courtesy light and switch, caused a crease
and getting the trailing lip over the rear window gasket.
This is what I did to solve the problems;
Trimmed 1.5 inch from the front edge so you don't have to push it in so far.
From the piece removed cut two .75 x 8 inch strips and taped them next to the screw head under the rubber gasket.
Now for the best. I took a nylon cord and placed it under the gasket lip, once an edge is near the gasket start pulling down on the cord slowly and allow the edge of the headliner to fall into place.

53-56 Ford F100 ABS Headliner
Trick I used was to heat up end of ABS tabs and bend the end up slightly - that way the end rode up on steel flange easier, kind of like a clip. Still next to impossible to get enough purchase on headliner to push it forward - so not sure if its better to slide the front in first and then the sides. On side tabs did install solid copper wire the diameter I needed to get over steel flange into the tab to open it up, put a loop in it and tied a string on the loop; tossing string over head liner to rear corner where I could pull on it to get get wire out of tab. So if one installed the 4 front tabs first then with the string method the sides might be easier to install. Just need a few more tricks: 1) Marking dome light & speaker holes accurate (can one mount headliner & then rotozip the holes using the inner metal brace as a guide, then paint zip scratches?); 2) Proper way to install lower rear cab panel 1/4 corners as instructions say to install corner 1/4's first then center panel. Both sides are tabbed and if you put in the corners on the door flange it makes it next to impossible to put in the center panel as with 90* angled bottom it does not flex ... so??
