Horn Honks When I Hit the "On" Button for Cruise
Hello folks. I searched the forum and did not find another issue quite like this.
Cruise worked for a week then the horn started to blow when you hit the "on" button to turn the cruise on. THe cruise does not work needless to say. So, what gives?
Supposedly the clock spring was replaced by the guy I bought the truck from. I have the receipt where it was bought but is there any to hook these things up wrong?
Is there a cruise module that could be the culprit? I am beside myself. Sometimes when you hit the on button the dash lights will cut out for a second.....Just not good, I don't think
I am looking forward to help. Thanks. Jason

If you don't have a airbag, then take the horn pad off and have a look. If everything looks ok, then take a wire and hook it to a good ground under the dash, and then touch it to the steering shaft, and see if that makes the problem go away. If it does, then you have a grounding problem in the column.

Yes, because sometimes you have to splice the connector into the wiring with butt connectors.
If you take off the horn pad as suggested and using a DMM you can figure out which wires go to the buttons and which to the horn.
As he noted, if you have an airbag be careful and disconnect the power, slight power source from a DMM might be enough to pop the air bag if you are not careful.
It would really help to know year and model, since my steering column in my 1988 B2 is a lot different then my 1997 Ranger.
