When and how much? We know the 5.0 is coming and possibly the boss 6.2. What about the TT 3.5 and what about the 3.7 Cyclone being the base engine? The wait is killing me and I want more info.

I bet the 6.2 will only be available on top end models which sucks Ford. I will remind you that a 5.7 is available in every single Tundra down to a RCSB 4x2.

Does anybody have any info on the new engines? This is going to be a major change and a step in the right direction imo for Ford. The Ford engines are just weak compared to the top power trains from the competitors and a lot of people have raised hell about it. Some are perfectly happy of course but I dont drink the blue koolaid and I want results.

There is no such thing as too much power, lighitng that is too bright, or a gas tank that is too big.

 

With what I have read point to ford not having a EcoBoost 5.0L V8 I'm beginning to question my praise of the EcoBoost idea. A full size truck should have a V8 minimum anything smaller and it lose some of its full size-ness. Now the Ranger guys are going to go nuts over a twin turbo V6 for them so maybe its time to look at a new ranger?

 

The thought that anything less than a v8 is a waste is outdated thinking.....who thought camaros could put out 300 hp in a v6?? Times and engines are changing....we can make as much power in a v6 as the last generations biggest v8's today......sure theres a place for v8's....but to say a turbo'd v6 will make it loose full size status is outdated thinking

 

In that case Ford had better do well with the TT V6 in order reverse the stigma of no less than a V8 because honestly I think that what a lot of people will think until proven wrong.

 

Even if the Horsepower is there, the bigger question for a truck is how much torque does it produce, and is it in a useable range of the powerband for towing?
A F450 diesel only makes 325 Horsepower, but a lot of torque, and where it can be utilized.

 

Yep, horsepower sells trucks (for some stupid reason or other)...torque moves them.

 

Well stated.....heck, the new Taurus SHO V6 puts out like 370HP....but I prob wouldnt plan on towing with it! haha

 

And it puts out 350 ft-lbs of torque....how much did the 2v 5.4's put out????...i'd bet you'd be pretty damn surprised about how well it tows...

 

This engine is actually borrowed form the Caddy CTS. It produces 304 HP and 273 ft lbs Tq. It's no doubt a very bad *** engine.

I have to agree with the others. A V-6 is a great application as long as your not pushing huge amounts of snow or doing some of the neavier work that a V-8 gasser or smoker is expected to do.

Read today that Ford will be delivering to the market the new Boss 351W the last quarter of 2009. The article said it is a four bolt main with thicker cylinder walls. They're supposed to be a 2.75" main journal diameter instead of 3.0" (same as 351 C). Just wondering if anyone has an update on these.

The Ecoboost can make all the HP and TQ it wants....reliability will be the real issue. A couple thousand pound car is quite a bit different than a 1/2 ton pulling trailers. And if/once it breaks get ready to lighten the wallet!!!

It should be interesting to see it perform in real world applications compared to the V8's. Ford does a whole heck of a lot of testing on stuff, so I'm pretty confident it will be a good engine. I guess we have a while until we can say for sure. Supposed to be late 2010.

 

Err, really? You should have owned my 2005 F350 6.0PSD - three head/head gasket/turbo replacements in 85K.

The new motors are one reason I bought my 09 - I'm very happy with (and very comfortable with) the tried and true Modular 5.4. I don't want another "young" motor... once bitten, twice shy.

 

Agree completely 100%!!! Just meaning the truck and its V8, even the 2v with 260hp and 350ft/lbs its meant for towing. I did read the SHO, it produces 350ft/lbs at as low as 1500rpm all the way up to like 6000rpm, pretty awesome. Ill stick w my truck for towing though. But id love a 4 door V6 that runs a 14sec quarter mile!
