Thumbs up Official release from Ford

http://media.ford.com/article_displa...ticle_id=31061

DEARBORN, Mich., Sept. 23, 2009 – People who know diesel engines are familiar with, and expect, the noisy clatter generally associated with diesels. That is, until now. When Ford's new 6.7-liter Power Stroke® diesel engine debuts in the 2011 Super Duty lineup, it's expected to be the quietest, smoothest diesel on the market, outperforming its closest competitors by several decibels.

including a video with the sound.

Most of the improvement in NVH comes from changes made to the combustion system and the structural integrity of the compacted graphite iron block, as well as from mounting one turbocharger on the engine block instead of two

Yeah.. ok.............NOT. The 7.3 was the loudest. And I am not saying that is a bad thing. I like the sound of a diesel. In fact that is a reason I don't want a 6.7 I like the traditional diesel noise. I was considering trading my 6.0 for a 6.4 but it is to quiet.

Believe what you want to believe. You can be 20 feet away from either of my 6.0s and standing right next to my 7.3 and 6.0s will drown it out. I've driven a few of the 6.4 and they are no quieter then the 6.0s. Mine might be special but it's the quietest diesel I've ever been around and I've owned a half dozen and been around a heck of a lot more.

Yep, 7.3 sounds like an old school bus to me. 6.0 sounds not as loud, but undoubtedly diesel, still reasonably loud. 6.4, drove one of those, my wife said it didn't even sound like a diesel inside while driving. If the 6.7 is any quieter than that, I would be very impressed - and I am sure it will be.
