Weight of my truck

I have a 1956 f100 with a ford 460 engine, it has aluminum heads and also a C6 trans. I'm wondering what it might weigh,I have no way of weighing so I'm looking for an approximate weight.

That pretty much describes the truck I just bought. I have to get it weighed in order to get it registered here in CA (truck is from SD). If no one else has the answer, I'll probably get to the scales in the next week or two.

a close guess as I haven't done a specific weighing

my trailer loaded, 3 spares (2 mounted), 4 chairs, canopy, battery and some stuff, weighed 6590. trailer is supposed to be around 3000lbs. so my guess is the truck is 3000-3200lbs with the 460/c6 combo.

Hi John,

Is your truck running? If it is you can go to the local land fill and they will give you a weight ticket for it. It may cost $5. Or if you have a local truck stop they may have a scale as well.

If it's not running, maybe one of the folks with a Salesmans Handbook for that year can give you the curb weight. With Aluminum heads and (I'm assuming intake manifold as well) your 460 will weigh about the same as a Y-block. Stock there is about 100 pounds difference. The C6 weighs about 200 pounds (with fluid), so your weight will be around 100-150 pounds more than the stock curb weight.

If you assume a curb weight for a stock 56 F-100 with the 6 cylinder engine to be 3070 lbs, or 3240 lbs with the Y-block, I would venture to say your truck weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 3350-3400 pounds.

Here is a link to another thread that has F-100 Curb weights (post #3).

I have a 54 F250 with a 460/C6 and a 72 F250 rear axle. The engine and tranny are stock. The truck weighs in at around 3900# at the land fill when empty. That should give you a ball park.

I'll concur with others that it would weigh in at 3200-3500 lbs.

Weighed mine in Simi Valley at the trash / recycling center. Cost about $15 bones as I recall.

Thanks for the tip. The DMW paperwork says I have to get it weighed at a "Certified California Weighmaster". The only one I've found is in Sun Valley. Did you use your weight slip for DMV purposes?

The county run scales at the dumps and recycling centers are Ca. Certified. I got mine weighed at EDCO. They have garbage transfere stations all over the place. They give you a little card - about the size of a business card and a paper reciept - I think mine was $5.

Your landfill scales up there are all Ca. Certified.

Sorry if this is a threadjack.

I scratched around a bit on the web and managed to find a list of certified scales in CA. There is one in Van Nuys just a couple miles a way, so that will work best.

Thanks,

Gustave

For the record - Yes. I drove directly from the weigh to the Simi DMV

Good Luck

Aha! See you fibbed to us on your original post - you said you had aluminum heads! So the 120 Lbs I was under would have been almost exact with aluminum heads.

Were you in the truck when they weighed it? (there's another 200#).

Also, not to be overly critical, but you may want to be careful publishing tickets like this one that show your address and the type of truck you have. Our posts here can be pulled in google searches by anyone - including pictures of you or your truck if you post them. I'd hate to see you get ripped off!!!!!

Good point, though I said I had "pretty much" the same truck, mainly referring to the 460. At that point I was looking for something close to tell the DMV. I was not in the truck when it was weighed, (I weigh 195 lbs ). Not worried about the VIN number at all, but thanks for your concern.

Tee hee - 195 even after the Holidays? Just teasing!

I thought we were having a contest. I was looking forward to my "Cupie Doll."

Oh well. Glad youfinally got it weighed and hopefully the DMV will be decent. They seem to be on the rampage lately.

If you have AAA I'd go there instead. If you don't have AAA it might be worth your time saved to join for $47!!!! They have really helped me over the years.
