Clutch Thickness?

I have a '73 P-400 Grumman Olson Step Van. It has a 300ci /6 linked to a 4-speed tranny. (1st gear is a granny gear). I don't know what model trans it is, but I never really checked yet. My question is... how thick should the clutch friction material be? I have a 2 piece bell housing so I can check it pretty easily.

Thanks,
bob
