Electronic Climate Control

Has anyone had to deal with a dead Electronic Climate Control unit?
Mime will work some time and then be dead. I don't happen to
have a wiring diagram for it.
Do these units fail do to poor solder joints like the FICM?
I have no problem pulling it out and re-soldering.
In this photo it is working again. With a little bit
of time it will go dark again

Thanks
Sean

I've had one fail and replaced it. I've never read about any fixes, and didn't even open it up to look. A new EATC head unit runs about $250.

So I am not crazy, some one else has had this happen also. Mine has died about 4 times since truck was new and have never found the cause. I have just shut truck off then restarted and it's worked every time, it's never died while driving ,just on start up. I would love to hear if there's a reason for it or just electronic hiccup.

Try cycling your headlight switch the next time it goes dark.

Mine has the same feature, done it about 4 or 5 times over the past 2 years, sometimes takes 2 - 3 KOnKOf cycles.

As stated above. Try cycling the headlight switch. That usually works. Bottom line the head unit is starting to fail. How long you can nurse it is an unknown.

My old fashion style climate control (The Dials) on the 03 always works

I do like the concept of digital readout and thermostat control my Buddy had replaced his to sounds like failure in these units is Common

Sounds like one of you need to tear into one for a Look and writeup

Speaking of tear into it.
I did have a look inside mint today.
What a crappy soldering job I see lots of cold
flow joints (solder had started to cool) with dull and bubbly finishes
Unit was made in your guess it Mexico. Nothing really jumped out at saying
I'm bad I am going to try to get my hands on a replacement before I
put this one on the bench and take the chance of killing it for good.
If some one has an electronic schematics for this unit
I could really use a copy. Working on some thing blind really sucks.
For the most part the unit is all surface mount components and a few ICs

Part of the reason I had the dash put was to re-lamp the instrument panel.
Did you know when you unplug the instrument panel the over head lights
go out along with the door open key in chime

BTW that headlight trick works well.

Thanks
Sean

That makes sense^^^^ since the wire harness would be disconnected and the circut Open

Wonder what changes when the Headlight turned on

Wonder if its cuz the Headlights being on also illuminates Dash and the Climate control display must go from Dim to Bright
