girfriend had a nice big Mercury that would "count down" the gallons remaining in fuel tank. she would be driving thru the Ozarks, down to 1 gal remaining! I certainly dont understand that mindset, but it works for her!

We used to have an '85 Caddy that had a similar feature. The car was a major lemon though, alot of times we couldn't run the gas out of it because it'd die for whatever reason before it ran out.

Ok so here's the latest update.

I've been driving the truck back and forth to work for about 1 1/2 weeks now and I would say it seems that I might be good for ANOTHER 200,000 miles.

So far I can only find one problem, and that is I think the transmition is going south.
My reason for saying that is every so often (rarely) when I take off from a stop it feels like it has less power. Almost like it's slipping. And when it does, it takes longer than usual to shift into second. Then at the next light it will be fine and won't give me anymore problems for a few days or so. I can't really explain it better than that. So sorry if that's not enough info.

Other than that I think I got this old moneypit is running pretty good. It idles good, starts easy, doesn't overheat or smoke, the heater works, windshield wipers work, and all the lights work now.
I still need a front end alignment but my son's first birthday is in two days so I don't have alot of cash. But I got it driving straight so it will be fine for now.

@greyghost Might wanna take care of that...lol

@dcassidy What transmission do you have?

I'd check the fluid level and color first. If it's low, add new fluid to bring it back to the OK line. If the color of the fluid is dark and/or it smells burnt, you might need to change the fluid.

If it's a C4 or C6, you could also try replacing the modulator valve and see if that helps. I helped another member on here whose C6 was shifting funny, and when he replaced the mod valve, it shifted better. It's a simple job, probably no more than 30 minutes worth of work.
