66 extended cab ??

Hello all! New, first post. I have a question that I haven't been able to find any info on. Just bought a 66 F250 dually with an extended or super cab - any one heard of these? Its my understanding the extended cab wasn't on the scene until 74. It has the rear port window typical of the supers. I have searched the net for days looking for info.
I still have to get it transported to me so I don't have any vin #s or castings yet.
Any help greatly appreciated, Thanks

vaden66 Welcome aboard FTE. There were 66 4 door crew cabs, but no extended or super cab, that I am aware of.

You need to get some photos of that truck in your photo album through your CP upper left on blue bar.

Let us know

Ford started producing them in 65, special order only, here is documentation from back in the day
They seem to use a 61-64 cab for the rear because their floor pans are higher. Also the rear door is from a unibody with straight body line. This one has 65 up front cab.

Also there were extended cabs available but I believe Crown Coach did the conversions from a regular pickup.

You can almost make out the 64 grill on that one. These trucks are not common but there are plenty of them out there. They were also built by several companies. The Crown conversions had external hinges for the rear doors and were really not as clean as the ford version.
In the June 1998 issue of Classic Trucks Magazine there was a feature article(on a GM) but it said Crown produced 500 crew cabs a year for Ford, Chevrolet and GMC pickups. Approximately 100-125 were Chevrolets. That leaves quite a few fords.
Here's a link to their site http://www.crown-na.com/history.asp#
If you highlight the truck on the right(that is a 4-door 57-60 ford) it says, In the 1950's Crown's customers and products included crew cab conversions of light duty trucks

Congrats on your purchase!

Oh, and this website has some info, read all the comments.

One could say that you truly have a Custom Cab.

Someone did a job on it, I would love to see more photos of it, inside and out.

One of a KIND!

Wow, that's a really unique truck! If someone didn't know the history of Ford trucks, they'd think it's factory! More pictures, like jowilker said, that is truly one-of-a-kind!
