2000 3.0 Power Upgrades and Results

I have a 2000 Ranger XLT (pics in my gallery) that recently turned 100,000 miles, so I decided to make it drive more like a small truck with a decent V6 should drive.

I got a 3 way SCT programmer from Bama Chips as well as the other upgrades in the following email I sent to Bama Chips:

"Hey,

Got the programmer, all went well with no unexpected problems.

I now have a 2000 Ranger 3.0 Flex Fuel with your programmer and:
JBA Shorty Headers (summit racing)
Dynomax Cat back exhaust and (summit racing)
Jet Performance Mass Air Flow Meter (summit racing)
Mac Intake tube (stuffforyourranger.com)

That is getting 20-23 MPG highway on the 93 torque tune doing 70 MPH. The truck used to get less highway than city mileage due to a heavy camper top, 300+ pounds of stereo, underpowered engine, and lousy transmission shifting.

I averaged 19 MPG on a 50/50 mix of city and highway driving with my first full tank of fuel after installing the programmer (just over 300 miles on 16 gallons)

The city is around 12-14 MPG, but that's because the truck is now so much more fun to drive.

The trans upgrades in your tune are amazing. The truck used to spend at least one full second (one mississippi..........) between 1st and 2nd gears, now the shifts are firm and instant. The torque converter will now lock up much more often as long as the speed is constant. The truck is barely over idle speed if cruising at 40 MPH.

It used to have to unlock the torque converter, shut off the overdrive, and sometimes even downshift to hold 70 MPH when going over a tall overpass. Now it just unlocks the torque converter to get another 200 RPM or so to hold 70 MPH when climbing the same overpasses. The low end torque is amazing, it's like driving my 4 liter Ranger that I no longer have.

Thanks for the great product."

I also did an engine oil change, and transmission service at the same time. Next is the camshaft position sensor before I get left stranded.

Ask any questions, and I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge.

The website, http://rogueperformance.com/WelcometoFredland.html was a huge help for me planning all of this out.
