If you are going past 6500 you want to rethink that cam... after running that motor for a while at those revs you will start floating the hydraulic lifters and ruining the internal tension springs.......
You want a solid roller with 1.7 rockers, you want valley of death pistons with small chamber heads..... They with all those expensive parts why not a 351W... or a stroker?

Saw you were using RHS heads... or aftermarket heads..... what I am saying is that purchase the 53 cc chamber heads and use dished pistons so you are getting compression from the head... not the piston..... the dish also creates a better swirl in the chamber and is more friendly to more lift on the cam...... Solid rollers are not way more expensive than hydraulic rollers.... my only observation is that anyway you look at is you are building up a 302..... which is more of a car/road race engine..... drag racing is kinda a no replacement for displacement sport..... Ferraris and Porshces.... they all use short stroke small displacement engines with turbos...... whereas in drag racing its all giant stroker big blocks with super chargers.........

For budget builds a 302 with 70s style dish pistons and small chamber FMS basic al heads is pretty cheap to assemble, and will run really well...... But you could also buy a 351W motor for another 200 to 300 bucks and build that up..... and use the same parts and the 351W motor will beat the 302 in the same truck with the same parts....

I have heard the same thing many times now i just don't feel like putting a 351W in my truck. Plus i already ordered my pistons. well i have been looking around and these Eagle Specialty Products 5090FP - Eagle SIR I-Beam Connecting Rods - Overview - SummitRacing.com seem to be the best ones.

You could probably use stock rods with ARP bolts ..... My experience with rods is that unless you are really spinning up the rpm... over 6500..... or building a stroker where the more stroke you add the more potent rod you need and lighter piston you want.... those stock rods will probably not fail..... especially in a 302 naturally aspirated in the RMP range you want to operate.... Usually a 302 will either spin a bearing...... better to spend money IMHO on adjustable valve train and full roller rockers etc....

Hopefully he can do both. I think it's always better to have a little bit better bottom end than necessary. Either way, I think he'll be over budget, unless he gets a little more resourceful.

Well at first i was going to use stock rods . If the rod fails its game over for your motor. So i decide to use some after market. I got lucky my friends mom needs some help remodeling her house so i will have a bonus 160-200 bucks i didn't plan on before. So i should be ordering the set of rods either this wednesday or next wednesday for sure.

So your not going for a stroker? Why? I think it's kinda funny this is your senior project. My friend is rebuild the C4 in my truck to handle what I do for my senior project. I'm gonna port a set of GT-40 heads and a victor intake. The rest will be done by me and my dad.

Not quite. You need to take your pistons, rods, rings, rod bearings, crankshaft, damper, and flexplate to the machine shop and get it balanced. Then you can assemble it.
