Cold air intakes. Worth the money?

Hello. I have an 89 f 150 with a 4.6L inline 6. Thinking about one of those K&N cold air intakes, but wow are they expensive. Any opinions on the advantages vs cost?

I've quite often heard that the 300 I6 and 460s come with better stock airbox systems than aftermarket "cold"(warm underhood air) intakes. If I were you, I'd stick to the stock setup.

You already have the inlet tube that 302/351 guys look for. Keep it stock and do what Quicklook said.

yeah stick with what u got, i have a drop in k&n filter and love it, and plus if u put the whole k&n setup you will be drawling warm air in

on top of that the 300 makes its power at such low rpm's that a cold air intake (which usually helps higher rpm's) would be pretty pointless

I agree the I6/460 tube is the way to go.

Adding a better flowing filter is also a good idea.

The CAI is a joke, no matter who made it. I don't know why they are called cold air intakes anyway, since they suck in warm air from under the hood. I had one and it was worthless except for sounding cool. My truck didn't run as good and got worse fuel economy.

Just a bit of a thought provoker, is there anyway a guy could take the 300 I6/460 intake and make it better and/or replace it with a newly plumbed system in the same place?

question, is there a benefit to taking out those cone plastic things in the 460 air intake tubes? I was told it is good to cut them out so i did and if it did anything it gave me less HP instead of more.

No, you want just the inlet tube. It draws fresh air from behind the grill and sends it to the airbox.
