Lightbulb 6.7L PSD Diesel Exhaust Fluid

Hi all,

Where is a person supposed to get this diesel exhaust fluid (DEF)???

So my question seems simple enough, but I was thinking more for the small town area's. Or places that do not have big'ole truck stops...

I'd bet that if your local Ford dealer services your Powerstroke, they'll carry it. And while the big truck stops are planning on putting in dispensers by the pumps, the small stations that sell diesel fuel will probably have it in bottles on the shelf with all the other additives.

Avalability will take care of it's self. I am more concerned over the cost of it. Anybody hear anything yet?

$2.79 a gallon according to that article, and from what I can remember you can expect a 4-7 gallon tank, that will nee to be refilled only when you change your oil. so basically like $20

Yeah...could cost over $2 per gallon. So the next logical question...

Is how may gallons will the DEF tank hold???

GREAT link provided powerstroke72!

Gosh...these new 6.7L PSD are going to be expensive to sevice. Wonder what FORD will charge for an oil change that will include refilling the DEF tank??? More or less than the 6.4L or 6.0L???

IMO...I don't understand why the $2.79/gallon cost for the DEF??? Dang...that seems high...

Seems like when I was reading some of the specs on the 6.7, it had a lower oil capacity then the 6.0 which I found strange. Anyways, not sure on the DEF but I posted a thread a while back on the new GM trucks that a fill port to fill the DEF tank up right next to the fuel filler in the same opening as the fuel cap. Now, that may have just been because it was a test mule but I'm sure it'll be easily accessible on all the trucks that require it.

It's hard to say what it will cost if it's included in a service visit at the dealership. I'm guessing it'll be higher than what it'll cost off the shelf or at the pump at the local fueling station.

DEF usage rate should be about 2 to 2 1/2 gallons per 100 gallons of diesel fuel. Roughly figure around 10 gallon of DEF every 6500 miles if the vehicle is doing about 15 mpg on diesel fuel.

I read that report on the GM trucks and as I recall only the diesel vans had the DEF fill port next to the fuel filler. The GM pickups I believe will have it under the hood.

I'd say you're probably right. I couldn't remember for certain but I thought the truck in the spy photo showed it in the same spot as the fuel fill. But, like I said, it was probably just because it was a test mule.

I believe the GM vans/trucks shown and described in this report are a bit beyond the "test mule" stage;

The EPA plan over time,"KILL DIESEL PICKUP'S", they would most likely like to kill OTR truck's,heavy equ and farm equ diesel also but the massive size of said equ does not allow for that to happen, This urea system just add's to the original cost of the truck,the upkeep of the truck , the higher day to day cost of keeping the truck on the road with LOWER MPG and adding in the cost of urea and MORE equipment issue's to inject urea into the engine, the list of issue's of keeping the truck out of the shop over smut control item's that "FAIL" get's ever higher,my son just took his 2004 6.0 F350 4 door Dually in JUST before the 5 year/100,000 mile's were up,58,000 miles on the clock, for turbo lag,sticking EGR,turbo vane's STUCK,Down pipe's cracked and other issue's that cost ford over $5,000 not counting labor,His truck is totaly STOCK, bottom line short,once the 5/100,000 is up,you don't want that on "YOUR" nickel ,meanwhile,my 7 year old 7.3 F 350 4 door dually with an Edge set in tow @ 60 HP has "NEVER" been in the shop!!!!! except for tran's oil change's, both truck's bought new, nuff said, http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-07-02.php ,note the graph on the right
