I'll add my welcome too. You're right on target that you'd find the hub piloted 5 lug x 8" circle wheels on GMC but not Chevy. REO also used them. Why the heck GM did that I can't figure, but Chevy used 10 lug x 7.25" circle and used a stiffening plate to cover every other hole on front mounts. I can't say that all were made, but all that I've seen of the Chevy/Studebaker hub piloted rims were made by Motor Wheel Corporation. Stu

Here's the M-H wrecker that was wondering around WI a few years back:
I actually saw this truck when it was first being assembled by a collector in DePere, WI about 15 years ago. It started life as a firetruck. The guy was a '48-50 Ford fanatic (with very good taste I might add) and a had a small fleet of trucks and 5-6 semi trailers filled with NOS and very good condition Ford truck parts. I got my seat, running boards and two sets of front fenders from this guy. Later I saw the truck for sale in Waupun, WI. I stopped and looked it over, it was a very nice truck and at the time the owner at that time was asking $20K for but later on the net I saw he reduced his price to around $15K. I haven't seen it for a few years now.

That's a nice M-H. I just got the truck home. It has 20" wheels that actually still hold air, lol. I pushed in the clutch while they pushed it off the trailer and when letting off the clutch to slow it down rolling off the ramps, it was turning over, but obviously no gas. This truck is much more put together than the previous two combined. I'm actually excited, the wife is not. But one thing is for sure, it is the shot in the arm I need to get something done, despite the bad economy.

My wife is no fan of my old truck hobby. But now with the Buick she and the kids are all gong ho. I just came with a replacement engine for the Buick. Made a 400 mile one way trip to get it. Two things I've done to prevent a melt down is first, I liquidated some of my cherished parts, sold one of the panels and, this is the key, I convinced her the Buick will be "her" car. I have other needs for the trucks but right now, but since she's interested in the Buick, I have to go with that project.
Just explain to your wife that you bought it for her. Also, maybe get rid of some of the stuff she's been carping about for the last five years. It's always important to keep the missus happy, if she's happy everyone is happy.

Well I did get the trailer house torn down, but that probably wasn't enough, lol. I offered to get her something for her to drive, but she wants a Hummer. I'm trying to sell the Saturn, and will be hauling the '85 F150 outta here, hopefully before snowfall. so that's minus two to adding one. There's no winning here, lol. But the stall tactics continue to work.

I know where you're at. Work has been slow for a while, way too long, but some stuff is finally coming in, just in time, we were starting to really worry. I've also been in the dog house many times with the little lady. Like many other guys, my wife doesn't see any value in a rusty old hulk. She just thinks it's another waste of money until I tear it apart and the money I get from it pays a bill or two. She has a great knack of finding a bill that is about 10% more than the money I just got. If I just sold a part for $200 she'll come up with a bill for $220 and say, " I have the $20 dollars but I don't know where I'll get the $200". "Here you go" is usually my reply. One step forward, 1 1/2 back it seems.

Here are a couple tow truck pics. Don't know where I got the first one... possibly ebay.
This one is on display at the International Tow Truck Hall of Fame Museum in Knoxville TN. I went there earlier this year to get some ideas for a car hauler I am building.
Thought this was neat... for the long chassis truck.

Took a while to find the site again. The intro is very cool: "my freind told me he had one that he saved from being sold for scrap. He didn’t really want the truck, he just didn’t want it scrapped so he bought it and kept it until he found someone who wanted it."
I really like the wrecker bed. I may have to jump on that if it doesnt sell. I want it for 500 - -600 i would buy it. Did your friend find some one for the 56?

Just piggybacking my thread with a pic of the rear wheel (outer wheel showing concave) showing what I'm sure is the "band" of a WM. The tires are cracked really bad, and am hoping to get new wheels and tires before tackling the restoration of this thing.

Off topic a little, I have a 53 M600 that had a dump box on it, is it possible to for you to take pics of the box up? I'm not sure how it used to work and would love to see it.
I can try it. Not sure if the engine runs yet, but if nothing else, we can hook it up direct and spin the pto shaft. I took a few underside pics showing the pto, pump, cylinder, etc... but I'll have to resize them to fit them on here. I'll probably get them onto my photobucket page this weekend.
