Problems with speedometer and where can I find a spare wheel
Speedometer not working. Took apart at tranmission and found that the gear was in good shape not even worn. Hooked drill to end in reverse spun the cable and speedometer works fine. What does the original gears look like? Would I have to drop the transmission to check the gear inside? Please someone let me know. Also looking for a spare wheel. Does anyone out there have a spare wheel for a 62 f100?
Thanks for all the help.

I know when I got my truck, only the inside gear was worn. I replaced it and ran the original gear on the cable. To check it, you could try looking in the hole, if not use a finger and see if it's flat or dished. You will need to know your gear ratio to get a new one. I ordered mine from ford.
No need to drop the trans, you will have to pull the tail shaft. Should be like 4 bolts and it pops off.
That all assumes you have a 3spd.
These wheels may or may not even fit, no guarantee on backspace, etc.. or even wheel size. These were simply available with 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern.
Also this is not a complete list, simply a starting point. Any of these might work for a spare.

The driven gear could be plastic, fiber or cast iron...it depends on the year, and/or what transmission the truck has.
If the gear is plastic, the same ones have been used from 1960 thru today, so are available from Ford and parts stores.
The drive gear could be plastic or steel, again it depends on the year, type of transmission.
However, there are SIX different tooth counts for the driven gears (16-17-18-19-20-21), THREE different tooth counts for the drive gears (6-7 or 8).
In order to get the correct gears, the rear axle ratio, type of transmission and tire size must be known.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1961/66 F100's were available with 15, 16, or 17" wheels. Which size do you need?
Thru 1966, F100's came with two different types of wheels. Most have hubcaps that snap onto tabs or riveted on clips on the inside of the wheel's center.
These hubcaps are called "innies."
--------------------------------
The other type of wheel first introduced in 1965 uses hubcaps that snap over tabs on the outside of the wheels center.
These hubcaps are called "outies."
15" hubcap diameters: Innies = 9 1/2" // Outies = 10 1/4"
--------------------------------------------------------
Any wheel from 1967 and later will be for "outie" hubcaps.
F100 15" "innie" wheels were available from 1953 thru 1966, and ALL will fit your truck.
Later wheels will also fit...but if you have innie wheels (and your truck did as original), the innie hubcaps will not fit on outie wheels.
