1989 Ranger 2.9 NO Power to Fuel pump?
I recently purchased a 89 Ranger 2.9, 5spd, that has been sitting for 6 + years and hasn't been started. I put a new battery in it to see if it would crank over, cranks over fine. The fuel pump will not kick on when I hit the key, I put a new fuel pressure relay in and still nothing. I put a test light on the harness after I unpluged it from the tank and no power to it?? I can pour some gas in it and it will bust off and run until gas is gone. The scrader valve has no gas either to it, I poured about 4 gallons of gas in it also the tank was dry completely.
The inertia switch is not popped either........
Any help would greatly be appreciated!

The main relay powers just about everything under the hood including the pump relay & the ECM/computer (does your check engine light come on when you turn the key one click?)
Heres what you should see at the pump relay with key on and fuel pin grounded (see the link below).
http://www.superhighoutput.com/tech_view.php?id=5
Solid red wire from the main relay tan/light green, orange/light blue 12 volts
Solid yellow from the fuse link will have 12 volts at all times.
First thing is to ground the pin & check for voltage at the inertia switch

If the check engine light works one of the fuse links is OK
If you have 12 volts on the solid yellow wire at the pump relay the other fuse link is also OK.
BTW, in normal operation the ECM only grounds the pump relay for 2 seconds & times out each time you turn the key.
It's kinda hard to figure anything out in only 2 seconds.
Grounding the fuel pin keeps the circuit hot while you look for the problem.
Good luck with it.
