77 f 150 ignition problems

i hate the ignition system on my 77 f 150! i have been told i can put an HEI distributor in it and it will get rid of all the problem parts like the ig. module and voltage regulator. ive had the truck for almost 10 yrs and im always changing something electrical. does anyone know if putting an HEI in it will help and what all do i need to do in order to do this? i would greatlly appreciate any help anyone can give me!

I don't think an H.E.I. will get rid of the ignition module or voltage reg. My Dura Spark H.E.I trucks all have both.

would it prevent the other parts from constantly needing to be replaced though? Like I said- it seems to always be something. I will replace the ign. mod. and it will run fine for a while then it will just stop running. So I will have to trace it back to where it is loosing spark and maybe this time I will have to replace the cylynoid or the voltage reg. etc. And this happens again and again every couple of months. The very last time that I messed with it- I ended up replacing the whole distributer. it ran for a little while. Now granted the truck sits. I would go to where I was storing it, crank it up and drive it around the property about once a week. Then one day- nothing. It turns over, but there is no spark. And of course now I am trying to selll the truck so I really need to figure something out!

I have been told grounding is real important to the ig. mod. If its not good there can be all kinds of problems. I would start there it wont cost you anything but a wire brush and some time.

Yeah. My grounds are all good. I only wish it were that simple!

What brand parts are you using and where are you buying them from? El-cheapo parts won't last as long as good quality parts...

The ignition parts I've seen sold by Autozone are made my Wells... Are you getting any corrosion on the terminals or wiring? Or are the parts just dying for no apparent reason? This may sound silly but, how's the weather?

the weather can't be the issue either. I have owned this truck for almost 10 yrs and it has always had this electrical "bug". I replace the parts whenever they go bad- always seems to be a different portion of the equation. But because I am really not very good with the electrical side of things- I can't seem to fix whatever it is that is actually cause all the parts to continually crap out on me! Corrosion isn't really a problem either-nothing out of the ordinary.

I replaced the entire ignition system on my '77 and everything has worked fine since then. That included plugs, wires, distributor, ignition control module, new battery wires, and... I'm sure there were a couple of other things.
