444dieselrod is starting off with a positive reputation.
'88 2.9 GT Motor

I was told that the GT's had larger injectors and a hotter cam VS the normal '88 2.9's is there any truth to this?

also is an '88 motor the same as an '89? I have an '89 ranger with a cracked head and a good '88 2.9 visualy there the same.

Lead Head has a good reputation on FTE. Lead Head has a good reputation on FTE. Lead Head has a good reputation on FTE.
All 2.9s are the same, there were no "hot" versions as far as I know. I do believe the 88 (or 89?) and later engines had slightly thicker heads, and were a bit more resistant to cracking.

The only "hot" factory 2.9s were in Europe. Base 2.9 had 20HP more then the US version, and Ford even had a special 2.9 with DOHC 24 valve heads in Europe.
