98 F150 cranks but won't start
I'm thinking fuel pump or coil. I checked all fuses and none seem to be blown. I checked the fuel pump shut off under the glove box. I pushed it, I expected to feel a microswitch of some sort, but the button did not move either up or down. Still won't turn over. I looked for the fuel pump but didn't find it. I found the filter underneath the driver compartment. Could it be the fuel pump is in the gas tank?
And any ideas on just what it could be?

The fuel pump is in the tank and I'm betting that that is your problem. You can see if it's sending fuel by turning the ignition to the 'run' position but don't crank it and then go under the hood to the passenger side and locate the fuel rail the runs over the plugs/coils and find the valve and see if it sprays fuel when you push the pin. If it does, you're getting fuel, if not then your pump needs to be replaced.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that was where it was located.
Where exactly is the fuel rail you are talking about? I could not find anything that looks like that. It appears the fuel line comes up along the firewall on the driver side. This line goes into a valve of some sort that is mounted on the firewall but I didn't see a pin to push.

Thanks for all the tips. Just a FYI...I took it to my mechanic and a 30 amp fuse was blown. When he replaced it, it did not blow again and all codes were erased when it blew the first time. Diagnostics showed a problem in the transmission so he replaced a wire harness in the transmission. It then started but shortly after that the Check Engine light came on and stayed on. Diagnostics show a bad #2 Oxygen sensor whcih will be replaced tomorrow. He says the bad oxygen sensor is probably what blew the fuse to start with.
Glad I didn't try to replace the fuel pump myself.

your on a 11 year old thread... you might want to start your own post....... I believe a 99 had a PATS system ... that means the key , receiver and pcm all need to MATCH to get it to start.
Put the key in and turn to ON... not start.... the THIEF light will blink 3 times, then go OFF when the computer recognizes you key as a match... do you get that ?
