At only $4 it is a throwaway item, so there's no need to try and clean it up. Of course some probably will justify spending $3 in cleaning fluids to save a $4 pump, but I'm not one of them.

Here is an easy way to refill your ATF. Go to Auto Zone and purchase a kit for changing gear oil in outboard motor. I think the kit is around $10. It's comes with a clear tube and a pump that will attach to your ATF bottle. Pump the fluid in within a minute or so, no mess, no fuss. I change mine every year and use Castrol ATF or Valoline Max Life.

I had to use a turkey baster with an inch or two of clear plastic tube on it..then i noticed a funnel it the bed of my truck that was Flexible, had a BENDABLE end to it with some length to clear the opening thickness of the case, and had an EDGE at the top to keep all the fluid from running out! Maybe the perfect tool! Jacking up the rear (careful!) of the truck or doing it on a slight downhill incline might help also! (Ditto on the careful).
Aloha

Yes it might make it easier, but you have to make sure you don't overfill it. The forward pitch will make the fluid level seem lower than it actually is when the vehicle is level.
