Tried to talk my son-in-law into a 2003 Expedition but...
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Nov-02 AT 08:28 PM (EST)]...he bought a loaded Toyota Sequoia.
Really a nice truck in every respect over my 2001 Expy and possibly a 2003 Expy.
Can't tow much though.
Haven't had any problems with my '99 other than the trans or such vibration. I only have 29000 on her.
Anxiously awaiting the head oil leak problem which many '99's have had.
With a list price $41300 these worries and problems just shouldn't be.
If the oil leak should should happen like the old ad said Ford has a better idea.I'll add "buy a Toyota".
For the first time Toyota has 10% of US market.
You may not like Toyota but they do make a quality vehicle.
This coming from a guy with a '99 Expy,'02 Grand Prid GT and a vintage '69 Corvette. No rice here but....
Edmunds.com says
"A thoroughly capable full-size SUV that beats Ford and General Motors at their own game."

Everyone buys cars for different reasons, but we looked at the Toyota, and in addition to price, we really didn't like the front passenger footwell. Ask your son-in-law (or his wife) how he likes the big black box that protrudes into the passenger footwell. I also thought it was a bit sluggish.

I looked too at the 03 Expy to replace my 00 Expy. I had smoking on start up problems with my Expy which is another story. Ford was unwilling to fix. I was gun shy about another 4.6 V8 with the problems I have had and the posts that I have seen that suggest mine was not a unique problem.
I decided on a GMC Yukon and boy, I am glad I did. IMHO, it is by far a better truck than my 00 Expy and the 03's I looked at. It drives much better than either, rides better (although stiffer which gives it better handling), handles better, has MUCH MORE POWER than even a 5.4 Expy, gets better gas mileage, has better seats (more comfortable), I could go on. The Expy only offers more rear leg room (the Yukon is perfectly adequate here), reclining 2nd row seats, and a 3rd seat that folds into the floor.
Anyway, I am glad I made the switch. Again... just my opinion. If everyone saw it one persons way, there would be only one big SUV.

Wallace

I know what you mean about the passenger side box in the footwell but it's easy to avoid it.My daughter said initially she found it annoying but not now.As far as the Toyota being sluggish it not any worse than my 5.4.
One thing about a Toyota product it is bullet proof.
We can't say that about our Fords.

This will always be a useless debate between Ford & GM, people buy what they like.
I didn't think that the Tahoe/Yukon's had 3rd row seats that fold into the floor???? Don't they just fold over, or lift out???? The folding "into the floor" 3rd row is/was an industry 1st for full size SUVs.
