yes for the engine, looks like they are testing the snot out of it already, and they arent done yet.
The hesitation was for the grill. i want to know the name of the designer who drew up that horrible two-bar thing with an obese blue oval gouged into it. there is no structure or flow to it-its like the bars and clampy things are just floating in there. the point of a grill is to block debris from entering the radiator, not to come clogged from the factory with huge chunky plastic chunks!!!!!
It makes you want to rip the grill off before you can safely drive it!
other than that its great and i would buy the first year.

Honestly, and it saddens me to say this, but i dont think i could justify buying a new truck that dosent have a stick option. Fords auto has been good so far, but i just cant imagine driving a diesel with an auto, its like counterintuitive. Diesel + Stick = , Diesel + Automatic = . I honestly dont know if ill even ever buy a new ford now... ill just keep rebuilding the 7.3L untill i die.
The V10 is only being discontinued on the 250/350's. The 450/550 will still have the V10 as standard.
Correct, and I see those are for you. I can see that a few people might step up to an F450 just to get that motor. A 6.2 in an F450 would be laughable.
Doesn't really change my point however, which was that Ford is forcing many buyers into a diesel. And it's all part of an evil plan.

Normally I think first year engines tend to have problems but from what I have seen of the new 6.7 it has been designed with correcting the deficiencies of the 6.0 and 6.4 in mind. This truck has not been designed to be serviced with the cab off, thats how much easier it will be to work on, there may still be problems with the new engine but you shouldnt be looking at $5000 worth of labor to do major repairs anymore.
I voted undecided. My 7.3 still out-pulls most of my friends and I would like to see the $$$ sticker and I would like to see how the combination of new emissions etc. performs on a daily basis and lasts.
To me it is a significant financial risk, with the economy flushing down the toilet and future income far from guaranteed.
I could see if you had a dealership that was actually helpful, weren't depending on it for your family's income, have a good funds reserve, etc. so that if there IS a problem, it's no big deal. How many would buy 1st year for a work truck where you know it will be used heavily? Would you have that much faith it will be OK?

I have to comment question with question. Do we really have a choice?
Toyota==Tundra?????
Dodge==Cummins ???
GMC==more trouble ???
Look for PACCAR to come out big in 2011 with their engine. I have no clue where it will be used, but sure to be a good engine.
I will be shopping when there is a store open with product or knowledge of same????

I kinda agree with rmosso. It's not like I have much choice if I am going to get another new one soon. The warranties are good and in my business I will always have an older truck as a backup if I need it. I do use my truck for my income and I do feel comfortable relying on the Ford products and service, at least in my home town.

You can wait a year, and see how it goes with the new motor. If something happens to your current truck and you must buy something, you can buy a 1 year old truck with the 6.4 or V-10.
I'm disgruntled about not being able to choose the V-10. As I get closer to retirement age, I can see myself stepping down to a gasser as cash flow goes down. But the 6.2 just doesn't cut it. Ford and the others are not leaving us a lot of choice, but their are always choices.

I agree with you on the first part.
On the 6.2, how do you know it won't cut it? Have you driven one? You're losing 50ft/lbs but gaining 38HP and another gear. My Explorer 3V 4.6 with 6r60 pulls much better than my F150 5.4 with 4R70W even though the 5.4 has 50ft/lbs more torque.
The 6.2 with more HP and another gear might pull better than the 6.8. Who knows until we get our hands on it. But with the torque #s being only 50 apart and gaining HP (which is actually a measure of how much work is being done) I'll bet it's going to be pretty good.

That's one way to look at it. Only losing 50ft/lbs. Or you could look at it as only gaining 35ft/lbs over the 5.4L. Since I don't believe the 5.4L ever belonged in an SD class truck, I tend to not be very impressed with a 35lb gain.
But your point is well taken. We won't know how it will perform with the new tranny until it gets here. The new gear ratios sound good.
And I'm going to just ignore the Explorer towing comment.

Ignore it if you want, my 06 Explorer tows much better than my 00 F150. It has basicly the same drivetrain of an 09 F150. It's not meant to compare with an SD, just make a comparison of how torque isn't everything.
Torque is just a measurement. HP is torque over time.
Also the 6.2 is only 25ft/lbs less than the 2v V10 with PI heads and 90HP more and people still loved that engine.
