it's alive!

Rollinda lives again... This time with more power. My friend came over with the new/used alternator, spent some time hanging out and prepping the patient... And bam! Installed. We've got pictures and all. I must admit, although not easy, it went pretty smoothly and is now checked off our list.

Update on the owner... The guy is a genius and if he had the time to do the work, he would do a bang up job. I was hoping my first post was humorous... Not a dig on my amigo. He turned me on to this and other forums. Being I am a Chevy man, it was very Darth Vader of me, coming over. The trucks are awesome, the community support is even better.

Glad she lives again. Always a good feeling. I'd say "congrats", but around here we usually save the celebration until we see the pictures. I'm guessing that habit came from someone from the Show Me state.

Keeme,
I'm afraid the 'Darth' moniker is already taken, over here on the Dark Side!

What challenges did you have in updating an older truck to the 3G alternator?
I've never done a pre '70's truck.
Bill's '78 F100 with a 302 was the oldest one I've done, I think...

Thanks Chris!

(Snarky comment removed)

I guess it's an option for those who want to retain the OEM look of a tin box on the fender.

Doing this now

My alternator finally died in the truck. I have all of the parts to go forth.

Just to verify, you don't have to add a resister into the green wire correct? Some of the pictures get confusing.

I totally did this in like 4 hours. Worked like a charm. I removed the wiring harness. But had to put it partially back in as it powered the cab.

Installed E fans from a 1998 Camaro. Dual thermostats one for each fan.

Removing the clutch fan does FEEL like the truck revs faster.

Thanks for the help!!!

Welcome Christina.

Can you take some pictures of your current setup so we know what you are trying to deal with?

How is it wired?
Is the battery fully charged?
What tools do you have to diagnose this?
