clutch
alright. I got a question. I have a 1964 ford f100 292 v-8 with a t-98 4speed behind it. the truck is 2wd. what size clutch does this thing have. The parts store I always work with show only a 12" clutch kit. How are clutches measured??? Is it measured by the friction disc????? is ther any way of telling what clutch size is in there without ripping the tranny out????? What is the input shaft diameter/spline count????

(6) 5/16" -18 pressure plate attaching holes on a 12 3/8" bolt circle.
Fits: 1961/64 F100/250 292 w/a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission.
11 1/2" or 12" clutch: ONLY F350/750's w/a 292.

alright thank you. got one more question. when my clutch went out, it makes this rattling noise. almost like a baby rattle. I am believing that my friction disc went bad because i can still feel pedal pressure. that hasnt changed which tells me that the pressure plate and throwout bearing is still good and in one peice. Am I pointing in the right direction???
What happened was i was on my way home driving down the road and then all the sudden i lost power. I can let the pedal out in gear and get nothing.

The info I posted came directly from the 1957/63 and 1964/72 FORD Truck Parts Catalogs.
11 1/2" or 12" clutch: 1961/64 F350/750. The flywheel used with the 11 1/2 or 12 inch clutch was not used in F100/250's.
F350/750's w/a 11 1/2" or 12" clutch's flywheel has a 12 7/8" bolt circle. F100/250's w/a 10 1/2" or 11" clutch's flywheel has a 12 3/8" bolt circle.
If the disc has worn down to nothing, this may have caused the flywheel to burn, usually blue heat spots are present.
If this occurs, you'll have to replace the flywheel.
Once a flywheel has fried, resurfacing it won't do one damn bit of good.

I've never heard of one clutch being measured by the pressure plate...regardless of what make of vehicle the old rolling pile of miseries is.
Do what 59INA40 suggested in post #2, remove the inspection cover, and measure.
