So I bought a 2008 Exp. EL with nav and I have a button for a phone, but no blue tooth. I noticed that the 2010s have blue tooth and a number of other sweet functions and since I do not want to buy another Exp right now I was hoping to be able to swap in a '10 radio unit. Does anyone know if this is possible? If it is possible, does anyone know what wiring I need to change, if any, and where I can get the wiring and radio? Thanks for all of your help!
I figured that it would cost, but certainly not as much as a new truck. What I am wondering is if it can be done with the 2008 wiring harness or do I need another? Do I need to be splicing wires or is this a plug and play type addition using the existing harness. I know that the mounts are the same and that Ford switched to this all in one radio pack for the purpose of being at least partially interchangable. Since my tech guys at the local dealership are less than helpful, I was hoping that some enthusiasts had tried the swap. Please if anyone has some information I would love to hear it.
Didn't somebody post about this once already? I think it was in the 09 F-150 forums. I think for the dealer to switch you out to a SYNC system is 1,500$ if I remember the thread right.

You cannot retro-fit the Sync module to a 07/08 model...and only some of the 09 models can get it.
There is something in the wiring itself in the dash. It may physically bolt in there, but Ford changed up the wiring in all of their 2009+ vehicles. The Expy got that change partway into the 2009 production round. Early build 09's are screwed.
it gets even worse if you have the NAV. The Ford accessories website specifically excludes Nav equipped vehicles...for the reasons listed above.
sorry to be a buzz kill man
If you want a integrated "Sync"-like radio to work with your phone & Blue-tooth, you need to go with the aftermarket.
JVC makes an awesome unit for about $650. Touchscreen DVD player, Nav Capable, Integrated bluetooth, integrated iPod/iPhone control, Dual Zone Audio outs. I had bought one a few months back, but never recieved it due a S/H dispute on eBay. I plan on trying again in 2 weeks.
however...always one of those isn't there?
if you have the steering wheel radio controls, you have to buy a $50 adapter. the OEM buttons won't automatically work...but they do work 100% with that adapter
That would require adding the Sync module too and I think that it would be very costly.
$550 installed for the Sync-Add-On module. Only for select 2009+ Ford vehicles though.
My Stang qualifies for it...but I might just put a Double Din in there instead since it's almost the same $$$...and I don't have to let some idiot Dealership tech near my car

That is a nice radio Tylus. The only problem I have with most aftermarket radios is they don't have time correction to move the sound stage in front of the driver. The OEM has the driver seat DSP which cheats this in a way, but sounds much better that a unit without it. Alpine and Pioneer use to put this in lot of units, but I see less and less of them.

SDJHAWK, I have the same exact questions and concerns. Why do I have a phone button on my 08 Expy Navigation that doesn't work? I took it to the dealership and asked if I can get this programmed to connect to bluetooth and received the "deer in headlights" look.
To me, I would think the dealer could "activate" the phone feature but I cannot find any info about it. Dealer suggested mobile ease, but again I'm not to sure what it is. I can't understand why I would install some other phone feature when I have a "phone" button on my Nav unit.
Can anybody help and provide more info on either feature?
i have an 08 Expo EL with the in dash 6 CD changer. I would be interested in your Navigation system if it will work in my Expo. does anyone know if the swap would work?

According to the manual in my 08 Expedition, the phone button is really just a mute button that mutes the audio system when you push the button so you can talk on the phone. This doesn't work in mine though. Push the button and it does nothing.
yes, I read that in the manual too, but I figured it was an adapter that the dealer could put on upon request. That's what I get for assuming.
After some thought I have decided to go aftermarket to install the features I want such as backup camera, bluetooth, DVD functions, and a couple others.
So far I am lookin at this HU. Any thoughts or suggestions?
