Non-Limited Slip Axle

Hi, I have an 03 Expy and when I purchased the truck I wanted the AdvancTrac system. But by adding this option it changed the Axle configuration from a Limited Slip Differential to an Non-LSD. I just wanted to know the reason behind this. And with doing so will torque be sent to the tire with the LEAST amount of traction? Thanks for you response.

The reason its like this is because the AdvancTrac system will apply the brakes to get the traction you need so the Limited-slip is not needed.

Non-Limited Slip Axle

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-02 AT 11:34 AM (EST)]Right. A limited-slip diff would defeat the purpose of AdvancTrac.

As someone who has put the AdvanceTrac through its paces (you don't want to know) let me tell you that you're not missing anything by not having Limited Slip. AdvnaceTrack is a highly dependable system that does a whole lot more than the mechanics of limited slip ever could. I had the same concern you had when we ordered my dad's Expedition, but my real-world usage confirmed that I had nothing to worry about. Enjoy your new truck!

Thanks everyone for your responses. They are very helpful!! It's because I will be doing a lot of winter driving this season and was a little concerned. But I will put the truck to the test and see how it handles.
