Here is a pic when I brought it home in 1978.

Here is one 31 years later before we pulled it apart for a redo. Along with its new owner, Son #1 and only.

Here is one in between, mid 1980's. It normally wore 35" Gumbo Mudders, but we were truck pulling this weekend and had the pulling tires on. Bigfoot came over for breakfast, Bisquits and Gravy.

Just kidding around! People get it confused a lot, so don't worry about it. But, for the record, a stepside is a Chevy, Fords are known as Flaresides.
Fords were called stepsides in the earlier days, i think in the '80s or '90s they went to the term flareside.

When I ordered my truck new in 78, they were called Flairside's. I will have to say most of the salesmen I taklked to didn't have a clue what I wanted to order.

I had a question about stepside beds that was never answered.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-question.html

What years did the stepside beds have flat top rails and what years had the angled top rails?

You guys are killin' me!

What I reeealy want is a short box flareside dentside... But they're aren't any up here. At all. I've literally NEVER seen a stepside dentside in person, short, or long box....

Currenly I am on the hunt for a step side bed of any brand for my f150 hot rod... I can't afford a custom built/ new replacement bed. You have to be a real conasour of trucks to tell the difference between chevy/dodge/ford stepside boxes, and If I use a ford scripted tailgate, the average joe won't know anything is off...

Its either that, or cut the outer skins off the styleside bed i have(no loss since its rusted ou prety good) so its just the inner box, cut the floor and narrow it, mount flair fenders to the sides, and re shape the bed rail tops... And section the tailgate narrower. But thats one hell of a lot of cutting and welding! No loss if it don't work since I'm scrapping the bed anyway... but still.
