I've got an extra gallon of rotella dino left after oil change. Got at Sam's club in cases of three gallons.Would it hurt to run the extra gallon of rotella dino in my 74 F100 390ci?
What vis does the engine call for? I have been contemplating running 5W-40 syn diesel oil in my wife's truck that calls for 5W-30. Diesel oil works fine in gas motors, but not vise-versa. 15W-40 might be a little thick in the winter though. Especially in MI.
Thanks for the reply Joe. This truck is a summer only vehicle. Our roads slowly eat vehicles in the winter. Unfortunately I only put about 2-300 miles on the F100 a year.
I think it acts like a 5 weight when cold and a 40 weight when warm so I think it would be fine. It says right on the bottle "For all engines gas and diesel" so you can't go wrong, right? I mean if it's in black and white

He's talking about dino Rotella -- it's 15W when cold. But if it's only for summer, it would be okay IMHO.

HK's reading comprehension>>>>N for needs improvement. I was thinking Schaeffers 9000 for some reason. Probably because of the other thread about oil breaking down in 2500 miles.
Huh, guess I never read the label. Just read it is good for our trucks here and that's good enough for me. I think I'm good to go then.
Yeah, you'll be okay. But I would definitely think about something else if you run it when it's really cold. 15W-40 oil is pretty heavy in the winter for a gasser. I used to run 20W-50 in my 'stang, but ONLY in the summer, and that was in FL. Went to 10-40 or 10-30 in the "winter".
