Does anyone else’s blend door have seizures?

Lately I’ve been hearing this noise from my dash, and it’s become quite annoying, I’ve narrowed it down to what I believe is the blend door motor twitching back and forth. It will do this even when the climate control is off. The only way to stop it is to unplug the climate control controller or turn the temp all the way up or down. So anyone know why or how to make it stop?

I have the manual climate controls. Mine groans and drags when either MAX A/C is selected or either of the defrosts are. Most of the time it is just annoying, but every once in a while it gets stuck, causing airflow to come out in the wrong place. I believe you have to remove the dash to fix it....

I dealt with that problem for the entire first year of owning my truck. The door would go back and forth and the temperature in the truck would go up and down. The dealership replaced the actuator, pulled the dash to install a new plenum, and broke a whole bunch of interior stuff in the process. The worst was the torn carpet, which caused them to remove the interior to replace it. Anyways, the problem was the item that I initially though it was. After taking it to another dealership, they replaced the electronic manual temperature control unit (the part with the three selector *****) and all has been well.

My 01 did this for awhile and just finally quit. After tearing the glove box off and checking the selector motor to find nothing, I was changing my fender mounted starter solenoid and noticed the vacuum lines between that and the headlight was unplugged. Works great ever since.

Hmmm is there some sort of sensor that senses the position of the door? it’s not doing full sweeps or anything, it’s just constantly twitching back and forth, it’s probably only moving maybe a 1/4 inch before it twitches back the other direction, like it’s trying to hone in on a particular spot but keeps going past it. I did find today that if I hit the dash it’ll stop for a moment, then pick back up.

Well the system is designed to go default to defrost in case it tears up so at least you have that for safer driving if it fogs up. So if anything is goin bad it will try to switch. Next time put it on defrost and see if it still does it.

FX4, I read your post. It's really a shame that things like this happen due to pure negligence. I finally have things straightened out for the most part. The dash still squeaks from not being put back together properly, but at least everything is working. The whole experience absolutely ruined the fun of having a new truck. Here I am at the two year mark and I'm up for service. I don't even want to take it in to a dealership for them to cause any more trouble. During my last visit for routine service, they broke my cup holder. Ford should be ashamed to have their name on some of these dealerships. I haven't found one yet that hasn't done some kind of damage to my truck.

as far as the sensor goes, my 01 works like this. The climate control sends a diff ohms signal to a motor located behind the glove box. The ohms measurement tells the motor how far to turn which determines where the air comes out. By climate control I mean the selector **** and the ones for trucks around my model tend to go out. So if climate control loses power the motor quits working and the vacuum system sends it to defrost.

Had mine in 5 times for that. It's working for now. I was told that from the factory the were very delicate and eventually ford re-designed them once they got enough complaints. Mine wouldn't hold a temp. You would set it at cold and it would go up to 130 degrees and then back down. It was occasional and at first i was told repeatedly i was crazy. I then stuck a digital thermometer in the vent and took a picture of it reading 130 when the dial was set at cool. Then they listened. Missed alot of work.

Mine will hold a temperature. I took part of the dash apart today and I can see the actuator shaft twitching back and forth, I bet the potentiometer is letting go. Only problem is wading through the dealer bull to get it replace. I get a lil tired of them treating me like I haven’t a clue.

Blend Door Noises

I have the automatic climate control and have this noise too. In the parts diagram it shows a vacuum line, but all three doors have electric actuators. Does anyone have any info on this?

I found this post, it might apply to screwy's problem.
