428 Flywheel Question

I bought a nicely built 410 to put in my 69 F100 4WD, but I need to buy a 428 flywheel. I see one on ebay (Raceparts - Hawks Racing Billet) but it says it "11 inch long style clutch bolt patter". I asked the guy who said it is set up for the 3 finger style clutch and not a diaphram clutch.

I have the original flywheel on my 360 (with whatever bolt pattern it came with originally), and I have a diaphram clutch in it now. Is there any reason this flywheel won't work with my current clutch?

I hope I can get some help in time to get a flywheel in time to do the swap this weekend.

410s and 428s both use a flywheel with a counterbalance for the crank. 360s and 390s do not. Reffered to as "Detroit Balance" vs Zero Balance.

McCloud (spelling) makes a nice flywheel, but pricey. Pretty sure it has both bolt patterns on it.

Alternatively, it may be possible to use your 360 flywheel if you can get a Machine Shop to zero balance your crank

Thanks, I get the part about the counterbalance (hence looking for a 428 flywheel), the sticky bit is the "11 inch long style clutch bolt pattern", does it prevent using a diaphram clutch in place of the old style 3 finger. I have a diaphram on the truck now with the original 360 flywheel, is this something I need be concerned about?

I don't want to take it apart and balance it.

In fact, as I look at a few other ads for flywheels I think the question I should be asking is - do I have an 11 inch pressure plate or did the 360 in a 4WD truck come with a different pressure plate.

The flywheel doesn't care what style pressure plate is bolted to it.
