Ford to possibly sell 6.7 to other truck manufacturers

Found this a few minutes ago. Apparently Ford may consider selling the 6.7 to other truck maunfacturers if there is interest.

Very interesting. One thing I do wonder though, is will the guys that buy a ford truck, cause they are built in america, buy this one, cause the engine is built in mexico?!

I hope the engine is that good that they can make a profit by selling it to other manufacturers.

Good question Sheldon. I would think they would. Dodge has sold plenty of trucks that were built in Saltillo, Mexico. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I know it wouldn't stop me from buying one when the time comes.

Interesting....could this be a smart financial move? Or asking for trouble?

I think one of the reasons for them making this information available was maybe a fishing expedition to see if after it was published, they got some response or interest. I just hope if they do start selling it to other manufacturers, they don't end up on the receiving end of the stuff Navistar did.

They'll probably sell them a detuned version so Ford always comes out on top of the power comparisons

The back portion of the engine, where the transmission is attached to the motor, follows an industry standard SAE 12-bolt pattern that could be used to join the 6.7-liter PSD with an independently supplied gearbox.
Finally a glimmer of hope. I've been depressed about the fact Ford will no longer offer a stick in their trucks. Wonder if the floor pan will be shaped to fit a stick under the cab?

I couldn't imagine Dodge or GM purchasing the engine, I would imagine it would more likely be truck manufacturers elsewhere in the world.

They need to recoup their massive investment cost somehow though.

I could see them using a detuned version of it in the F-650 / 750 too.

A retrofit kit would be nice for us with ailing 6.0s or just love our older trucks...

That would be a cool idea - like a Ford Motorsports crate engine.

I actually toyed with the idea of putting a 6oh in a 66 Lincoln... budgeting/time/space constraints prevented it occuring, but with the more constrained new emission laws, finding an older body (pre emission requirements) makes a lot of sense to legally remove things like the DPF/EGR etc. etc.
