What is the best AT tire out there IYO

Hey guy's I'm looking at buying a new set of tires in the next month for my 07'. I need something that will be good when I go off road hunting on the weekends, but I still want good on the road manners and be half way quiet on the pavement. I was thinking about the Copper STT MT's,but although I like the looks I think they would make way to much noise,or are they worth the noise?. The size I'm going to get is 285X70R17 so the tire would have to be available in that size. Just wanted some of your opinions before I buy.
Thanks for the help

Well I just put on a set of Firestone Destination ATs in the same size you're looking at. So far they've been great. I've only had them for 3 weeks or so but last week I took them off road. No troubles whatsoever in mud, dirt, water, whatever. They also make hardly any noise on the road which is great.

The real test will be this winter though, I'm sure they will do just fine. If you go on www.tirerack.com you can read lots of reviews about tons of different tires. After I put some more miles on these I'll report back with how they do. Good luck in your search!

I've run the cooper STT's on another vehicle. If you don't mind tire noise, IMO they rate right up there with TSL's and swampers. Otherwise, I'm with pb34, the destination AT's are pretty good tires. Have them on now on my 04. I have ~30k miles on them. and have about 4-5 /32 left front and rear. Not wearing as good as I would like, but not bad. All other road manners are very good to excellent. I'm not easy on tires, and that may account for some of the extra wear.

If i can swing it, my next set of tires will be Cooper STT's, I was very impressed by how tough those tires are. (and they have GREAT tread depth ,17-19/32 to start with.)
Rain traction was awesome for a mud tire, they have sipes cut into every treadblock from the factory. I don't need to worry so much about road and tire noise now that i have a daily driver '98 contour. I'll sacrifice the noise comfort for the benefits of the cooper STT's.

I have the Firestone Destination A/T's on my truck (2000 F150 2wd) and they have been great for ~25k. there is still plenty of tread left but i drive mostly highway. In the snow, rain, and mud, they have exceeded my expectations and are darn near silent also. I went from Yokohama geolandar A/T's which wore horribly and will never go back. I would highly recommend. Make sure you get the LT's, not the P.

I'll pitch in on the KOs. Great AT and the best AT in the mud I've dealt with.

Now, if you want a MT (as it sounds) I've heard good things about the Coopers but I've also heard a lot of good things about the BFG MT KM1 and the KM2s look absolutely badass.

Firestone Destination AT has my vote. I have a set of Destination LE's on my '96 Chevy full size and they've been great so far (3 years).

If you go to Tire Rack you'll see that the Destination AT is the highest rated all terrain tire for light trucks. The data is based on customer ratings. Just looked today and they are now #2 out of the top 64. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey....jsp?type=ORAT

The Goodyear Wrangler Durtrac's look awesome, but at $300 a piece for just the tire they should. I didn't want to spend $1400 for a set of tires.

I second that on the Good year wrangler Durtrac's I just put some on my truck I played in the mud some and think they pull harder then the old Good year wrangler MTR's that I had on my old truck or maybe its cause this truck has more *****... think for all 4 installed for me it was 1100 dollars. Got them in 285/70 R 17 they dont make too much noise going down the road.... lot quiter then buddys 04 chevy with the new MTRS on it .
