Yeah, would be so much farther ahead if I had a place to work in the winter!

The patch is all fitted up. I tacked it while it was still on the truck, so it would be in the correct spot. Then, pulled it off, and welded it from the back side. really cuts down on the grinding.

So, the new left side box section is a much nicer peice than the right side was, doesn’t have that wicked twist to it. So, plan is to use the entire piece. Of course, I’ve had to do a bit of massaging on it, but not much. All in all, a nice peice. I did weld on a flange at the top, so I would have something to weld to the inside of the box. The seams will be welded also.

Fiitted to the truck, after some minor hammer/ dolly work. Marked a line on the upper box side, where the cut will be on the oringinal.

Marked where the cut should be. I’m giving myself an extra 3/8’s of an inch or so, to fine tune the cut afterwards. This is one of those points, where, before I cut this, I sit back and make damn sure I haven’t missed anything, before chopping an original box side in half!!

I’m hoping it comes out a little better than that. George.....LOL

Panel cut. Hung both peices, to get an exact line to cut on the old one.

If you’re wondering why I back halved this panel, here’s why. Had to do a ton of patching. Then, realized I was going to have to cut, and patch in the filler door for the fuel tank. Not good.
