Console Removal

I'm trying to get my center console apart and I can't seem to get chrome ring around the shifter out. Is that required to get the main panel out around the shifter? I'm able to get the parts around the radio out no problem, but I'm trying to run a cable from behind the radio to the center console storage area.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

No problem. The ring does come off. I would use a skinny blade wrapped in tape or similar so you don't scratch the finish.

Got it. Thank you.

I just can't get that ring off...I'm sure I'm going to break it. Even tried prying at it with a putty knife. May have to look for some alternate routing possibilities.

It may not need to come off. Try taking the rest of the parts off first. I would assume the ring wouldn't cost a ton if you did break it.

On my 08 Navigator, I pried up the woodgrain panel under the bezel with a putty knife and the chrome ring came off in one piece. I got the tip from somewhere out in internetland; I can't find it again, otherwise i would send you a link.

Open up the center console arm rest, and pry the trim panel up from the rear edge. The chrome ring comes right along with it. I struggled through all of this when I put a factory navigation system in my new 08. (The Nav system was from a 07 and it plugged right in and worked perfectly.)

Good luck with it.

There are some bolts that need to be removed before you can pry it up. I believe the Nav console is a little bit different than the expy.

The only bolt I can find is the one under the rubber storage area at the base of the stereo/HVAC vertical console.
