fuel transfering to front tank

fuel transfering to front tank
Just started having this fuel transfer problem. According to an earlier post the problem is a faulty check valve on one of the fuel pumps. Ford had a recall for this problem and my truck is not covered by this recall
Should I continue to fill both tanks and just let the fuel transfer to the front tank, or run the rear tank dry and just use the front.
I cannot afford to have the problem fixed right now.:-X23
Also, How difficult is it repair this problem myself?
The truck is a 88' 150 ext.cab lb 5.8l
Thanks for your input

Had this happen on a '80 F350. Do you have a switch on the dash to select which gas tank you use? If so, then you have a sticky or corroded tank selector solenoid. On the F350, it was just below the driver's door, bolted to the frame. It has three hoses and a wire. Other than getting doused with gas when you disconnect the hoses, it's EASY to replace. Standard replacements are available from NAPA (<$20, I think). It takes less than 30 minutes to replace (unless you have to replace all the cracked and cruddy fuel hoses too).
