F250 or F350 4x4

I guess you could say I'm new to Ford trucks, I've been a die-hard bowtie fan for a long time. But my neighbor had a 1982 longbed 4x4 and decided to sell it, I jumped at the chance to buy it. Now I'm wondering exactly what I have. It's am 82 reg. cab longbed, 351, 4spd, 8 lug axles, full floater rear, and ttb front with leaf springs. It had F350 emblems laying inside, ( I know that really doesn't mean anything) , but I've also had a few people tell me it's a F250. Another person told me you could tell by the VIN, but I haven't figured that out yet either. The GVW says 10k, which is what my K3500 crew cab dually says too, so i know the truck is pretty heavy duty for what it is. I'd appreciate any help on trying to i.d. what this one is.

My guess (and just a guess) is that it's a F-350 given the 10,000 lb GVWR. Don't think F-250 went that high. Ford didn't start using Dana 60 in the F-350 4x4 until '84.

Crazy...
F-350's had a straight front axle.
F-250's didn't have a GVW over 9300# that I know of.

Maybe someone has swapped cabs or done a SAS on your truck?

Gotta be a cab swap right? Because it's got TTB, nobody has done a SAS.

Wait, what Solid axle did f350's have? I thought they started putting the D60 in in 86?

The D50 was used in both, the f250 and f350 untill mid 85 when the f350 went to a Solid axle(D60). But w the GVW you have listed it is a F350

As stated, F-350 4x4 didn't get a Dana 60 until some point in the '84, prior to that it was Dana 50 TTB.

Something is still a little funny right??? Didn't F350 SRW have a GVRW of ~9500?

Does anyone have any published data to back this date up? I have always heard they started putting the straight axle D60 in the f350's starting in 85 1/2 models. It tend to believe the 85 1/2 number, Ford seemed to love making major mid year changes in all their vehicles through the years, but I have no published data to back that date either.

No published data but that is what I have been told and I tend to believe it as I've seen a lot of '84 F-250s with Dana 50 and a handful with Dana 60 (doubt all were converted, but they could have been).

I have seen a bunch of 84 F350's w D60s, but EVERYONE was converted. I have only ever seen ONe 85 F350 that was a Factory D60. , The rest were a D50.

As for the GVW it should be 9100 or 9200 for a SRW f350. 8600 or less for a f250
